Plot[]
Lucille storms into Gamma Garments and accuses Emily of being a liar and informing on her to the Walkers. She's determined never to return to school. Val witnesses the conversation. Emily wonders if Ken could have a talk with the girl and Val invites her round later on to ask him. Annie stops Jack from telling Len about Lucille. She insists that Jack talks to her but when he refuses, she storms upstairs to have it out with her on her own. Lucille plays her radio out loud and refuses to open her bedroom door to her. When asked by Emily, Ken agrees to speak to her. Dennis thinks his letter came from someone local and asks Val to keep her ears open to any gossip from her customers. Annie writes to the Hewitts but Jack refuses to let her send it, promising to deal with Lucille himself. He is surprised when Ken tells him that he, Val and Emily know about Lucille. He insists that he will deal with Lucille by using love. She lets Jack into her room to talk. He tells her that Emily didn't say anything, but Dennis did when pressured. They talk about how Dennis has constantly drifted about in life, not being taken seriously by anyone. He talks her into regaining her educational ambitions in life. Later on, Jack talks Annie into not remonstrating with her anymore and peace is restored when Lucille dons her uniform to return to the school. The brewery write to the Walkers saying that the other pubs have had higher sales over the Summer. Jack is at a loss to understand why. Dennis is momentarily suspicious that Irma is the writer. Hilda spreads the news about the brewery's letter. Annie spots Harry Bailey knocking at the vestry door and wonders why he's back. Harry catches up with Ena in Gamma and asks for a private talk. Jack and Annie hide his return from Len. Ena takes Harry to the vestry where, in a distracted and grieving state, he asks her to tell Len that Nellie died yesterday.
