Plot[]
Tickler rouses Stan at 8.00am to begin his training routine with a run, Tickler accompanying him on Ken's scooter. Charlie looks for the postman, wanting to grab No.5's mail and add to it the birthday card he'd bought for Minnie but forgot to post. She's delighted to get a card from Jed Stone. Ena buys her a lace doily. Elsie thinks she saw Lucille in Market Street in Manchester the day before but she denies being there. Elsie calls to see how Hilda is and hears that Trevor has written from his digs in London to say he'll pay the money back. Emily has made amendments to Stan's scarlet cape, as per Tickler's specifications. Albert wonders how Minnie can afford a television set. Stan collapses in Rosamund Street on his way back from his run. Tickler asks Charlie to add Stan to the roster at the next wrestling night at the club. Ena oversees Stan's weight training in the mission. Emily brings the cloak round. It has "Ogden the Terrible" sewn across the back, much to Len and Ena's amusement. Minnie leaves her pension book on the corner shop counter. Ena offers to take it round for Florrie and finds a document in it. Charlie worries that the other wrestlers on the bill will be too much for Stan. Ena confronts Minnie with the document. Florrie tells Hilda how she enjoyed a night out with Tickler. Stan is annoyed that his dinner, cooked to Tickler's instructions, is only one poached egg on toast. Ena has discovered Minnie has been gambling and has won on a treble accumulator. She accuses her of walking hand-in-hand with the Devil, causing her to break down in tears. Charlie is interested to discover she never picks a loser. Lucille is late back from school, telling Jack she stayed behind to do her homework. Tickler is interested to hear about Minnie's winning system. Len spars with Stan and easily beats him. Tickler receives a phone call to say that Stan has been booked. He rushes round to the mission to say he's going up against 6'4" heavyweight Ian Campbell. Stan begins to worry.
