Plot[]

Audrey believes that Alf can't live without the shop. Liz and Jim call a family conference and are annoyed when Andy refuses to bring Amy along, as he doesn't want her upset. They urge Andy to return to university but he is adamant that he wants a home with Amy. They are stunned when Andy tells them that Amy has a five-year old child. He accuses them of finding excuses just because Amy is black. Liz and Jim refuse that, saying they don't deserve that. He walks out, saying he'll never return. Audrey asks Deirdre to return to the shop - Deirdre is relieved to have a job again. Jim and Liz spend the evening together and he is delighted when she agrees to stay the night.

  • The Granada Plus repeat of this episode on 10th August 2004 was cut for timing reasons, omitting an entire scene of 29" duration in Part Two, in which Colin Barnes and Bob Cairns close up The Queens and Colin broods over where Liz has got to. The ITV3 repeat on 4th October 2019 contained the same edit, and also trimmed Steve McDonald's dialogue in an earlier Rovers' scene, where he describes Jim as a "bit of a nutter" and says that Liz has "a thing about Geordies".
