Plot[]
Colin Barnes fancies Raquel but Des warns him off. Curly enjoys being in charge and gives his troops an inspection. Brendan tells Deirdre to be more welcoming to the customers and refer to them all by their surnames. Denise has a wonderful weekend with Hanif. Audrey gets fed up of Alf following her around all day. Colin has finished stewarding and considers hanging around Des's house. Denise feels that Hanif is more interested in work than her. Notable dialogue[]
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Yeah, I know it's surprisin' but the attraction between men and women has got nothing to do with sex, it turns out."
Denise Osbourne: "Says who?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Oh well, they've been into it an' everything, y'know, brainy people."
Jack Duckworth: "So what is it, then?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Well, you know if you take a mirror and stick it up your nose?"
Denise Osbourne: "Eh?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Like dividing your face. And yer look into another mirror, you can sort-of make one big face out of half of your face."
Jack Duckworth: "Well, I'm sorta with yer, but it's not a thing I do that often, y'know..."
Alma Baldwin: "No no, they do it with photographs, don't they? I mean, they put two left halves together and two right halves, and it makes a completely different person."
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "That's it, yeah."
Denise Osbourne: "So...?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Well, that's it."
Denise Osbourne: "And...?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "And!"
Denise Osbourne: "Ah!"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Yes, so, well... one of them's more what your face'd be if you was a man, and the other's more what it would be if you was a woman... if you weren't already, sort of thing."
Alma Baldwin: "Is that right?"
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "Mm, so when you fall for somebody, what yer seeing... I mean you don't realise it but, what you're seeing - now 'ang on a minute 'cos this bit's complicated - you see the face made up of the halves that they'd be if that person were t'same sex that you are."
Jack Duckworth: "Whoa, now 'ang on..."
Raquel Wolstenhulme: "So what it is is, yer see, your brain is sort of imagining, if you know what I mean, and if your brain sees that person, unconsciously, as being the sort of person that you think you're like yourself, then you fancy that person, and... well, it's as simple as that."
