Plot[]
On her last day at No.6, Raquel gives Des plenty of chances to ask her to stay but he continues to wish her well. Reg fears that his treatment of Vanessa Morgan will get him the sack. Vanessa thinks he has gone crazy when he suggests that she recreates the display that he previously ordered her to take down. Gail worries that Martin is placing too much importance on becoming a nurse. Rita tells Bet about Ted's proposal. She is flattered and likes Ted but feels that he lacks passion. Bet advises her not to be influenced by the promise of retiring to Florida and ask herself if Ted is the right man for her. Vanessa asks for tomorrow evening off as her dad is in the area on business and wants to see her. Curly promises to pass the information onto Reg, having no intention of actually doing so. Des comes home early from work to catch Raquel before she goes. She's thrilled when he says he doesn't want her to go. She agrees to stay. Liz is sent on a food hygiene course as the British Legion has to train its staff to comply with the new Food Safety Act. Mavis tells Percy where to go when he suggests that Derek join his bowling club in order to pass the time while he's out of work. Rita wonders if she'll be on the scrapheap herself when Mavis comments that Ted is just what she needs at her time of life. Alma asks Kevin to help Martin see that it's not the end of the world if he fails his exams. Kevin thinks she's being premature. Rita decides to tell Ted that she can't marry him. He surprises her by whisking her into a passionate embrace.

- The Granada Plus repeat of this episode on 25th August 2003 was edited for timing reasons, omitting an entire scene in 11 Coronation Street, 1'00" in length, in which Liz McDonald informs Jim that the British Legion is modifying its kitchen to comply with the new food safety act and she is being sent on a food hygiene course. Notable dialogue[]
Rita Fairclough (discussing Ted Sullivan's marriage proposal with Bet Gilroy): "Well, I've told him I need time... Time to think about it, get it in perspective... Get me life in perspective. Do I settle for what I've got? Getting up every morning just as t'birds are clearing their throat. Working seven days a week. So whacked at night I can hardly open t'door. And for what? So some yob can smash me door down and help himself whenever he feels like it? Or do I snatch his hand off and take off to Florida with a man who seems to think the world of me?"
