Mavis's friends advise her not to run away from her problems. Deirdre is surprised but pleased when Ken ignores her in The Kabin and thinks her solicitor's letter has done the trick. Bet can't believe that Alec plans to give the Wiltons £800. He sees her point and knocks £300 off for expenses. Mike leaves for Harrogate with Jackie, letting Alma think he's going on his own. Mavis wonders why Derek hasn't visited her. Ken complains to the police that Phil has threatened him. They tell him they can't get involved in a domestic situation. Alec sends Jack to tell Derek he'll reimburse him for the flights. Derek is thrilled and asks Mavis to return home. She asks him to be patient with her, to his fury. Ken tells Deirdre that Phil lent on him. Percy tackles Nigel Chadwick, the paper boy, about the break-in. The boy refuses to answer any questions. Deirdre tries to get hold of Phil. Alec gives £500 in cash to Derek in the Rovers in front of all the regulars. Derek was hoping for £1,000. Bet discovers Alec has claimed back the money from the credit card company and threatens to tell everyone if he ever acts as a cheapskate to her again. Derek, distraught over losing Mavis, gets drunk and buys everyone drinks.
