Alma thinks Mike won't give Ivy a reference as he doesn't want her to see him being bossed about. He insists it's because of the travel bags. Bet and Alec get worked up about the possibility of Deirdre selling out to Newton & Ridley. Flick had a lousy date with Mark as he took her out with his friends and they ended up eating at a service station. She's embarrassed when Mark gives her and Jenny a lift to the Poly. Mark works on a black Sierra owned by Mel Bailey. Ivy tells Don she might not accept the job and is thrilled when Mike hands her a reference. Word spreads about Deirdre selling No.1 to the brewery. Flick has to tell Mark she's not interested in him. He leaves her a gold necklace despite her protestations. Ivy gets the supervisor's job at Ingram's Textiles. Curly tries to get Kimberley to stay at No.9 while the Duckworths are away. Don is embarrassed when he has a go at Mike for not helping Ivy get the job only for Mike to enlighten him. Nigel Ridley shows the Gilroys a plan of the new bar and tells them their rent will be trebled. Bet thinks he's trying to force them to resign. Nigel tells them they can move out to the Quarryman's Rest if they don't like the changes.
