Notes[]
- A technicians' strike at Thames Television over new shift patterns lasted from Wednesday 17th October at 7.26pm until 2nd November following a previous strike for the same reason which had lasted from 27th August until 3rd September. On this occasion, Thames’ management managed to run an emergency service from 23rd October but were only able to only show programmes made by themselves and not from any other ITV region. They were only able to rejoin the network from Monday 5th November at 9.25am. The rest of the country saw Coronation Street without interruption, but Thames had to find additional slots to enable viewers in the London area to catch up once the dispute was over. This meant that this episode was transmitted there on Thursday 2nd November at 7.30pm.
- TV Times synopsis: Betty Turpin again tries to persuade Billy Walker that his wild nights at the Rovers will end in trouble. And, this time, she has a special warning. Hilda Ogden gets into a flap when she hears that a certain person is to visit her at Number 13.
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 20,449,000 viewers (1st place). This was the highest-rated episode of the year and the highest-rated programme on ITV in 1984.
