- A strike at Yorkshire Television over productivity which began on 18th December 1978 (some sources state 17th December) was not called off until Wednesday 3rd January 1979 with transmissions resuming at 5.45pm. The rest of the country saw Coronation Street without interruption, but Yorkshire had to find additional slots to enable viewers to catch up once the dispute was over. This meant that this episode was transmitted in that region in the programme’s usual timeslot of 7.30pm on Monday 7th January.
- TV Times synopsis: Rita Fairclough clashes with Deirdre Langton over her returning to work at the yard…and Len is caught in the middle of the row. Ken Barlow continues teaching Karen Barnes how to read and write - despite warnings from her husband.
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 16,400,000 viewers (6th place).
