Episode 1777 (25th January 1978)

Plot[]

It is Tracy's first birthday. Steve decides to finish at Baldwin's Casuals if he doesn't get the job at Bristow's Dairy. Fred refuses to let Annie treat him like dirt. Steve tells Mike he's disgusted at the way he has treated him over the reference. Mike tells him he's not going to give him a good reference; he wants him to stay on and train in management - he wants him as his right-hand man. The Rover is repaired and passes its MOT. Bet suggests that Fred dresses up as a chauffeur, including a hat, to try and shame her. Annie appreciates the effort that Fred has gone to, especially when her Lady Victualler friends are impressed. Mike asks Bet to entertain a client on Monday night but she refuses. Annie arrives back very happy with the effect Fred's chauffeur costume had on her friends. She gives Bet a bottle of expensive perfume as a thank you for putting Fred up to it, and gives Fred a car-cleaning kit. Fred is left furious. Steve agrees to take Mike's job. Albert pushes Ken to take Sally Robson to see the new Woody Allen film. He accepts the order.
