Christopher keeps the Hewitts up all night. Lucille borrows Sheila's record player only for Harry to tell her she can't play music in case she disturbs the baby. Sam still hasn't brought Jack his insurance card. Jack starts to wonder if he's hiding something as he doesn't talk about his background. Annie thinks he's just being private. Len, Jerry and Sam move Minnie into No.5. Bobby goes missing en route and Minnie gets them all looking for him. Jerry finds him on the doorstep. Ken and Val move into No.9 and the neighbours admire their new furniture. Ena discovers that Swindley didn't tell the gas board that Minnie was moving in when she goes to boil the kettle. Geordie lorry driver Ted Young delivers supplies to Len and is surprised to hear that Sam is working in the area; he knows him from Blyth. Swindley gets onto the gas board for Minnie. Len tells Sam that Ted will be in the Rovers later and Sam promises he'll be there. Len puts the fittings into the salon in No.9's parlour. Harry finds Lucille playing records in the back room while Christopher cries in his pram outside. Lucille moans that she never gets what she wants. Harry slaps her face when she tells him to "drop dead". Ted entertains the regulars while waiting for Sam. Sam sends word that he's unwell and can't make it. Ted reveals Sam's wife is a real nag and jokes that perhaps Sam has killed her.
