Notes
- TV Times synopsis: The bonfire party explodes into tragedy…
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 6,900,000 homes (7th place).
- The Granada Plus repeat of this episode was edited down for timing reasons trimming 1'35" from the end of the Corner Shop scene where Rita Littlewood urges Norma Ford not to run away because of Ken Barlow, 13" from the beginning of the scene where Alan Howard lights the bonfire, and 21" from the end of the Rovers scene where Rita makes pointed comments about Len Fairclough's history with Janet Reid. A 22" scene earlier in Part Two where the boys including Mark Hillkirk wait for Alan was cut entirely.
Notable dialogue
Ken Barlow (about Albert Tatlock): "He's your original crusty old codger. In fact I think he spends most of the time trying to work out things to grumble about."
