Plot[]
Part One: The Platts prepare to see the consultant. Shona's barely holding it together and is irritated by David's casualness. Going about her day, she's further wound up seeing Dee-Dee with her healthy daughter and snaps at Roy when he fusses about the train set Alfie broke. When he joins her at Seb's memorial garden, Shona apologises but doesn't tell him why she's upset. She's reassured when David admits he's a bag of nerves, but his pessimism wears thin quickly; Shona is doing all she can not to cry. They're preparing to set off when Shona - annoyed at David's attitude - kicks him out of the car.
Part Two: Note: This segment replays the events of Part One from David's perspective.
David's trying to stay strong for Shona but comes off as nonchalant. Distracted and irritable, he does a bad job with Mary's hair at the salon and is rude to her when she complains. He decides to confide in Audrey but changes his mind when she makes him apologise to Mary. Audrey organises a family dinner at No.8. David's impressed by how well Shona is holding up, especially when he confesses how scared he is. Shona waits for him in the car while he hides a package of baby clothes Gail has sent on. When his wife orders him out of the car, he refuses to leave. At the hospital, the consultant confirm the presence a mass on their baby's neck. They're told that it can block the baby's airway and cause premature labour. Shona is offered the choice of an abortion or carrying on with the pregnancy and undergoing a complex procedure where the tumour is removed while the baby is attached through the placenta. The consultant lets slip that it's a girl.
Part Three: Shona has perked up at the news that her daughter could be born healthy. David thinks they should consider a termination because of the risks but Shona thinks it's no more dangerous than a Caesarean. Michael tells Tyrone that Fiz threw a wobbly at work. Sally finds out that Lou is up in court for fighting in prison. With Joanie coming home to No.4 tomorrow, Tim convinces Sally that it's not the right time to tell the kids about their mum. Will hasn't come home from school. He rings to say he's at an athletics meeting in Leeds with his old team. Ben is furious. Tyrone tells Fiz he's going back to garage to do office work. He asks her to talk to him in the future if she's struggling to cope. Sally, Tim, Adam, Michael and Billy join Kevin's poker night at No.13. At the Rovers, Eva has to make the cocktails herself as the mixologist hasn't turned up. They go down badly and the evening is a damp squib. David and Shona tell the Platts that they're having a girl but nothing more.
Part Four: Kevin bets recklessly and raises the stakes by gambling his car. Sally wins with four of a kind but refuses to take her ex-husband's car. David and Shona have to endure the Platts going on about babies. Audrey makes a toast to the new baby girl Platt. Sally worries about Kevin, and also doesn't like keeping Brody in the dark about Lou. The Driscolls agree to let Will stay the night at a hotel with the team when an accident closes the motorway. The cocktail evening ends on a high note with Maggie leading everyone in a chorus of Sweet Caroline. Will, who is still in Weatherfield, looks forward to spending the night at a hotel with Megan Walsh. He promises her that his parents will never find out about them. Shona tells David that she's having the procedure, irrespective of his own feelings.
