Plot[]
Part One: 1st July 2007: A teenage Kit Green runs away in a panic. Not far behind him is his best friend Mick Michaelis but he is not as quick and the police manage to arrest him as Kit watches on from a hiding place.
2025: Bernie calls on Kit, wanting to make sure he's okay but he's in no mood for her enquiries. Sarah sees Gary's injuries, and he makes sure she knows that Kit did nothing to stop Mick assaulting him. In the corner shop, Kit bumps into Mick again and takes him to task for making a complaint about Gary, knowing it could scupper his own career. Mick hints that he was lucky he became a copper in the first place.
In The Estate Saver shop, Mick steals a four-pack of cider after the shopkeeper is rude towards him and Kit in front of Lou Denham and her schoolfriend. Both lads fancy her. As they swig their illicit booze on the estate, Kit tells Mick his parents have agreed he can stay with them for the summer again. Mick shows Kit a reply he's had to his army application, which he thinks will be successful if he keeps his nose clean. Lou and her friend catch up with them, but Kit is shy and it is the more forward Mick who ends up snogging her.
Sarah questions Kit about Gary. He promises to sort it out. Craig is told he will be shadowing Kit who instructs him to ignore his call from Gary and let the matter go through official lines. In the salon, Maria and Lou argue about bitterly about their other halves. Looking forward to Brody being released later on today, Lou begs Mick not to cause any more hassle. In front of Bernie, Gary and Maria harangue Kit and accuse him of being bent. Gary asks him who he really is beneath his veneer.
Kit is horrified as he listens to a desperate woman's screams of pain.
Part Two: Kit easily bats off Gary's accusations. Bernie is troubled and follows her son back to his flat. She asks him why he's covering for Mick, mentions the photobooth strip she found and suggests the electrician has something over him. Kit fires back, saying she was never there for him when he was growing up, and throws her out.
Amanda Green refuses to let Bernie see Kit, saying she's obviously drugged up. As Kit walks up the road, she urgently makes her leave, but Kit has spotted the jade elephant she's wearing round her neck and realises who she is. He runs after her departing taxi, begging her to come back.
Sarah tries to get Kit to open up to her, saying she wants the truth.
Kit returns to the shop, wanting to make amends by paying for the cider, but Mick is met with a barrage of abuse about his scummy family from the shopkeeper. Wound up by Bernie's sudden appearance in his life, Kit is livid on his friend's behalf.
Mick is furious when Craig accidentally spills a pint over him. Kit points out no harm is done.
Kit tries to persuade Mick to revenge himself on the shopkeeper.
Kit tries to get Mick to leave the Rovers but he refuses, pointing out that he and Lou know what he did to the shopkeeper's wife.
Part Three: There is a tense atmosphere in the pub as the two men stand off against each other until Mick is called away on the promise of a job. Lou insists on getting Sarah and Kit a drink to celebrate Brody being released. In the cafe, Bernie lies to Mick that she knows everything about him and Kit as she is Kit's real mum. Mick snidely tells her what the shopkeeper said about his own family back in 2007, saying it resonated with Kit as he thought it well described his own birth family. Things get even more tense when Gary and Maria come into the pub and insult Lou and Kit until Glenda quells them. Taking Kit to one side, Lou assures him that they won't say anything.
Kit and Mick put lit fireworks through the shop's letterbox, thinking the locked premises are empty.
Kit isn't pleased to have Bernie call on him again. She guesses that he is being blackmailed over the shopkeeper. Kit admits that he saw red over the man's words towards his best mate.
Kit and Mick are horrified to hear the screams of the shopkeeper's wife within as the fireworks burn her. Kit runs off before the returning shopkeeper sees him, but the man easily spots Mick. Later on, Lou comforts a crying Kit.
Kit tells Bernie that the woman suffered third degree burns and Mick was sent down for it. He moved away soon afterwards, went to university and joined the police. But his actions in 2007 ruined Mick's life.
Part Four: Bernie promises to keep his secret. Leaving the flat, Kit overhears Mick pleading for the job offer which has been refused as Gary has given a bad reference.
Six months later, Kit and Lou visit a bitter Mick in the Greenford Secure Training Centre. He asks them both to smuggle in drugs for him and threatens Kit with exposure if he doesn't comply. Kit stands up to his demand.
An angered Mick provokes Kit who punches him. Lisa separates them and takes Kit back to her flat where she threatens to report him unless he tells her what's going on between him and Mick. He refuses to listen and walks out. Bernie rings Dev, saying she's upset but blames herself for not being stronger back in the day.
A crying Bernie gets out of her taxi and rings Macca for some drugs.
Brody's release is delayed for several hours due to a fight in the STC. Having been told by Mick who punched him. Lou storms round to Kit's flat, wanting assurance that Mick knows nothing about happened when he was inside.
21st May 2008: Kit and Lou meet up. Mick has been released and living with his dad. Lou is seeing him but scared of what he will do if he finds out what she and Kit were doing while he was locked up. They say their goodbyes, with Lou seemingly reluctant to tell Kit something else.

Notes[]
- This was a special flashback episode depicting the events in 2007 between Kit Green and Mick Michaelis which led to their 2025 animosity (depicted in italics within the plotline above). The scenes with the arson attempt on the The Estate Saver were specifically seen as taking place on 1st July that year by way of a headline in the Weatherfield Gazette about the smoking ban coming into force in England and Wales that day. The catch-up of 21st May 2008 was introduced by a banner outside The Dearbill Arms advertising the 2008 UEFA Champions League final which took place that day.
- The flashback scenes were location-heavy with no filming being conducted on the outdoor set at the MediaCity studios. Principle locations were in Irlam for the scenes outside The Dearbill Arms which used the Higher Irlam Social Club on Moorfield Road, and Turner Avenue for the scene where Bernie Winter begs Amanda Green to allow her to see Kit. These were recorded on 10th March 2025. Other locations were in Miles Platting in Manchester with Bollington Road standing in for the Rostock Road, and The Estate Saver being situated on row of shops at its junction with Ridgway Street. Further along Bollington Road, the scene where Mick kisses Lou in 11571 was recorded at its junction with Marcer Road, along with the scene where Kit convinces Mick to revenge himself on the shopkeeper. The alley where Kit and Mick catch up laughing after stealing the cider took place on Axbridge Walk while the scene where Lou comforts an upset Kit in 11572 was recorded at the rear of the Bollington Road shops.
- Director Jason Wingard ensured that the look of 2007 was achieved by concentrating on props which had changed in the interim, such as The Estate Saver having a rack of DVD's to rent, no modern phones being used, and cars seen in shot being models that were on the streets eighteen years before.
- Music, both incidental and diagetic, was used to convey the time period with Atlantis to Interzone by The Klaxons (released in 2006) being used in the first scene set in 2007, intermixed with Kit Green playing the record in his flat in 2025. The scene where Kit and Mick Michaelis steal cider from The Estate Saver used The Klaxon's 2007 cover of Not Over Yet.
- Bernie Winter was the only character who was played by the same actor - Jane Hazlegrove - in scenes set in both 2007 and 2025, the former being achieved by use of make-up, period wigs and clothes to ensure Bernie looked eighteen years younger.
- Kate Waters was the fight arranger for the scene where Kit Green and Mick Michaelis clash in 11572.
- TV Times synopsis: Kit has flashbacks to his childhood, revealing a man on the wrong side of the law and events that made him who he is today. Gary, Mick, Maria and Lou clash over recent events, and Bernie wants to know why Kit is covering for Mick.
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 4,286,900 viewers (7th place).
