Plot[]
Part One: The next morning, Max is brought out of his cell and Kit questions him again.
- On the night of 27th September, Dee-Dee turns up at Billy's flat, sobbing that she's done something awful. Lisa leaves the hospital after being treated for her bruised ribs. Ronnie and Ed approach Joel's flat. Kit steals a file from the police station.
Kit insists that Max goes over the events once again.
- Lauren admits to Max that she is terrified now that Joel has absconded after appearing at his court hearing. Max feels they ought to do something about him.
Kit insists to Max that he must have had help and he's going to uncover the truth about what really happened that night...
- Joel tries to return to his flat unseen and hides as he overhears Ed begging Ronnie to rethink their actions in the street outside. The two men leave. Joel hides again as a patrol car arrives. Lisa returns to the station where Craig insists she should go home. Ed and Ronnie return home via the ginnel and within No.3 Dee-Dee overhears them discussing what they've done in the yard. Ronnie refuses to give up but nevertheless drops the crowbar at his feet. Max and Lauren investigate after she hears something in the garden at No.8 but it seems to be just the gate blowing in the wind. Dee-Dee comes to a decision after she finds the crowbar in No.3's yard. Ronnie gives instructions to someone to deal with Joel, once and for all. The patrol car leaves, and Joel gets into his own vehicle but Dee-Dee, armed with the crowbar, arrives and insists he gets out. Lisa tries to prevent a mugging in the precinct. Carrying her truncheon, she shouts at the mugger to stop as he attempts to drive away in his car, but he ignores her and hits her dead on. She lies on the ground injured. Joel tearfully insists he still loves Dee-Dee but turns on her as she makes it clear how much she despises him. When he taunts her that she dropped her religious beliefs to have sex with him, she snaps and batters him with Ronnie's crowbar.
Part Two:
- Dee-Dee approaches the prone form, and a barely conscious Joel grabs her leg. She jumps back and makes an anonymous call to Kit. He drives to Noble Street, clipping Greg Delaney's car as he spots Joel. Kit tries to arrest him, but Joel stops him in his tracks when he threatens to tell his colleagues that he framed Nathan Curtis. Hindered, Joel gets in his car to leave. Lisa is treated in hospital. Returning to the Rovers, Kit clears part of his call history from his phone before grabbing the whisky bottle from the bar. Lauren gets a signal from the tracker on Joel's phone. She tries to ring Lisa with the information but there is no battery power left on her own phone. Back at the station, Kit retrieves Nathan's file. In his car, Joel records a voicemail for Dee-Dee. Max sets off to deal with Joel, refusing to let Lauren join him.
Max babbles out his story of defending himself with a CS spray. Kit orders him to slow down and give him the details.
- Max arrives at the viaduct, not seeing that he has been followed. He finds Joel's car with his suitcase inside it and a suicide note. Seeing a jump from the viaduct as the logical step Joel had in mind, Max climbs up to the top.
Kit wonders why Max didn't call the police, but the lad insists he left his phone at home and only had self-defence on his mind.
- Joel grabs Max round the neck at the top of the viaduct.
Kit asks Max exactly how he managed to hit Joel with the rock when he was held in that position.
- Max escapes from Joels grasp and defends himself with the CS spray. Joel taunts him with insults directed against Lauren to make him lose his cool and distracts him enough to grab him again. Lauren, newly arrived on the scene, kills Joel with a blow to the head with a rock.
Part Three:
- Lauren is in a daze but then breaks down as she considers the consequences of what she has done.
Kit points out to Max that the story that he clubbed Joel doesn't tie in with the postmortem result.
- Max tells Lauren that Joel's note gives them the opportunity to make his death seem like suicide. They tip him over the ledge and into the river.
Kit doesn't believe that Max lifted the body on his own.
- Lauren is still in pieces as they sit in David's car. He tries to calm her down. He throws the rock and CS spray away and make plans to dispose of the suitcase at the tip.
Thoroughly disbelieving Max's story, Kit orders that Lauren is brought in and informs Max that they'll also be charging him with murder.
Part Four: Lauren is questioned. She insists the tracker was there to protect herself from Joel.
- Max and Lauren set off in David's car.
Lauren tells Kit that Max set off alone when they were alerted by Joel's tracker. She is unable to account for why Carla spotted them with Joel's suitcase but she refuses to give him any further information. Shona arrives home from the hospital. David isn't sympathetic to hear that Clayton is in a bad way. Their argument is interrupted by Craig calling to tell them that Max has been charged with murder. Ed and Ronnie call on Dee-Dee who assures them that she is fine, having heard the news about Max. After they have gone, she pulls out a pregnancy testing kit. David begs Lisa to intervene, but she is unable to help. He then has a go at Lauren, telling her he doesn't believe a word she says. Lisa herself is puzzled why Kit questioned Lauren when he'd already charged Max. Kit's certain that Lauren was on the spot when Joel died. At her foster home Lauren cries as she reads a note from Max in which he tells her he's taking the blame for the murder.

Notes[]
- To preserve the reveal of Joel Deering's killer leaking prior to the terrestrial broadcast of this episode, it was not released to streaming on ITVX at 7.00am as per the usual procedure.
- This was Kate Brooks first episode as producer, being co-credited with Verity MacLeod.
- Both episodes feature "flashbacks" to the events of the night of 27th September which are denoted in italics in the plot summary above. The first two sets were additional vignettes out of sequence from the others, which were all then in a narrative sequence. Most of these scenes had suspenseful library incidental music overlaid.
- Location recording for the viaduct scenes was carried out at the disused Martholme Viaduct near the town of Great Harwood in Lancashire.
- The scenes on Noble Street were filmed on a specially constructed set behind the Nuttall's Brewery façade at the MediaCity studios.
- Scenes on top of the viaduct were filmed in a studio recreation of the location at the Space Studios at Vaughan Street in Gorton, Manchester with the bridge and railway tracks on a turntable enabling them to be moved around against a "volume wall" of the surrounding countryside to suit the directorial needs. These studios had previously been used for scenes in the "Horror Nation Street" week, broadcast in October 2021.
- A nurse who treats Lisa Swain in 11415 is uncredited, although he has a line of dialogue. Max Turner's solicitor appears in both 11415 and 11416 and is uncredited, despite having a line of dialogue in the latter.
- Andy Merchant was credited as the stunt co-ordinator for his work on both episodes, involving Lisa Swain being knocked over, Greg Delaney's car being clipped, Dee-Dee Bailey clubbing Joel Deering and all the stunt work on the viaduct. Other credits were all for 11415 only and were Kim McGarrity as the stunt double for Lisa, Gary Kane as the stunt double for Kit Green when he hit Mr Delaney's car, and Rob Jarman was the stunt driver for the mugger's car that hit Lisa.
- TV Times synopsis: The true events surrounding the night of Joel Deering's murder are finally revealed.
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 4,282,000 viewers (12th place).
