Plot[]
Part One: Betsy sees Lisa’s bruises. She is not convinced by her excuse of obtaining them at a body combat class. Ken’s oblivious that Cassie and Steve have spent the night together. Adam calls round and is perturbed to learn Ken’s forked out for the airport's prestige lounge tickets as well as business class flights. Bernie and Gemma throw the quads a fifth birthday party. Billy calls round with a present that Paul bought for them a few months ago. Betsy finds her mother's prescription painkillers dated 28th September. Seeing Kit looking through his file on Joel, Daisy gets out of him that he put up a fight before he died. Dev asks Mary and the twins for advice about making things up with Bernie. Aadi and Mary think he should make a big romantic gesture. Kit leaves the file on Joel in the Rovers. Betsy sees that Mason has a bruise on his cheek. Questioning him, she is shocked when he says Joel was killed around midnight on 27th September.
Part Two: Ryan guesses that Carla is still upset about Lisa and tells her to talk to her. Adam tells Steve he is worried where Ken is finding the money to fund his and Cassie’s lavish lifestyle and fears he’s running up debts. Joseph returns from his skiing holiday. Chesney has to work and therefore miss the quad's party. Bernie blames Dev for his situation. Kit returns for his file. Ryan insists he didn't read it. He also mentions that he still misses Daisy, making Kit interested. Ken surprises Adam and Steve by telling them about his premium bond win. Dev prepares for his big gesture to Bernie which, to Aadi's puzzlement, involves entertaining the quads with balloon animals. Betsy gets Craig to confirm that Joel died on the 27th, and that Lisa clocked off work early that day. Daisy also mentions in passing about Joel putting up a fight before he died. Drawing her own conclusions, an upset Betsy follows her mother into Underworld and in front of Carla, asks her if she killed Joel.
Part Three: Annoyed that her daughter suspects her, Lisa refuses to account for her movements. She is also angry when Carla says that Betsy is raising pertinent questions. Steve and Adam are told that Cassie knew of Ken's win. Neither of them like the influence she is exerting over him. Lisa rips into Craig and Daisy for gossiping about her and the murder. Over a beer in the bistro, Ryan laments to Kit that he was right to dump Daisy, but he still misses her. As he lists all of Daisy's likes, he’s unaware that Kit’s making mental notes. Dev does a balloon trick for the children at the party, one of which contains an engagement ring. He goes down on one knee and proposes to Bernie. She rushes out in tears. Steve accuses Cassie of manipulating Ken. She angrily defends herself, saying his family are all gold-diggers and they're the ones that Ken needs to avoid. Dev catches up with Bernie, who finishes with him, saying she's not in the right headspace for anything after Paul's death. Carla asks Lisa again where she was the night of the murder. She agrees to tell her, even though she insists she can't tell Betsy.
Part Four: Lisa tells her that she tried to stop a man snatching a woman's bag and he hit her with his car. She didn't report it, as she didn't want to be taken off duty. As Becky had died in almost exactly the same circumstances, she also didn't want to traumatise Betsy with knowing history could have repeated itself. Carla advises her to tell her daughter something. Having seen Mason raiding a bin for food, Betsy tells him she wants to help but he's not interested. Ken and Cassie have departed on their holiday. Adam and Steve agree that a family intervention is needed once they return. Kit finds out that Betsy has been asking questions. Dev is despondent at losing Bernie. Daisy’s enthused when Kit lays out her favourite chocolates and makes out he’s addicted to watching The Real Housewives of Cheshire. Ryan questions whether Carla’s been honest about her own movements on the night in question. Carla insists she nipped out to switch off the factory lights.
- Leaving the factory, Carla is surprised to come across someone in the street.
