Plot[]
Part One: An emotional Billy readies himself for the funeral on what would have been his and Paul’s first wedding anniversary. Bernie is also putting on a brave front though Joseph is silent and morose, and Gemma realises he can't face the ordeal. In the Turkish hospital, Amelia Demir, the CEO of the cosmetic surgery company, approaches Sarah and explains that they’d like to pay for her hotel accommodation. When Sarah demands they should be paying the medical bills the CEO hands her Bethany’s signed consent form. Dee-Dee confides in Kit that she phoned the wedding venue and the holiday company, and it would seem Joel has already recouped their deposits, which she points out is not the behaviour of people planning a suicide. Bernie's unconventional performance car hearse sets off. Word reaches the Platts about the CEO's offer. An angry Audrey determines to trash the company's reputation on their website. Hope makes jokes about Fiz, suggesting she has pregnancy cravings. From Tyrone's reaction, she realises she's hit the nail on the head. Billy is horrified to find a drunk Denny skulking in the shadows within the church and orders him to behave and keep out of sight.
Part Two: The service begins. Todd, Summer, Kit, David, Chesney and Dee-Dee carry Paul’s coffin down the aisle with Bernie and Gemma following behind. Billy steps forward to conduct the service and makes an emotional opening speech in which he can barely contain his own tears. Back at the Rovers, the staff prepare for the wake. Despite her reservations, Bernie finds the service moving and appropriate, but any positive feelings vanish when she sees an unkempt Denny staggering out from a side aisle, cans in his hand. Fiz tells Tyrone she can't face having another child, saying she no longer has the energy for such a thing. She's annoyed when she finds out that Hope guessed. Their concerns are put to one side when Tyrone knocks over Hope's pencil case and a vape falls out. Left alone with Billy and Denny, Bernie is furious, saying the service has been ruined and she blames the vicar. He retaliates with harsh words about her being an absent mother for so long and she blurts out that Paul was already dead when Billy thought he was speaking his last words to him.
Part Three: Billy is hurt beyond belief by the revelation and storms out. Izzy confronts David at the wake, having read a post by Audrey which reveals the true reason behind Bethany's condition, and that they have been crowdfunding for something that was self-inflicted. The regulars aren't happy with the revelation. Tyrone and Fiz are angry when a cocky Hope reveals she stole the vape from the corner shop. Carla pays for a free bar at the wake. Summer is worried when she can't find Billy and Bernie outrages the everyone when she confesses that she told Billy the truth. Her shame quickly disappears when she lashes out at Kit. Billy walks into the pub almost paralytic. The mourners fall silent at his behaviour. Carla can't face the wake, and Lisa agrees to accompany her to the bistro for a drink. Fiz and Tyrone haven't a clue how to deal with Hope. Fiz declares she can't keep the baby. Billy sings quietly to himself at the bar while the other embarrassed mourners watch on until he staggers out. Todd goes after him. Carla and Lisa enjoy chatting together. Todd finds Billy in Victoria Gardens, in despair that he missed Paul's final moments.
Part Four: Getting tipsy, Bernie confronts David and Daniel about Bethany, saying she brought it on herself. Audrey walks into the pub and finds out from her grandson that her DM to the Turkish company was publicly posted by her in error. Todd almost carries Billy back to his flat, trying to convince him that Paul died knowing that he was loved by him, and that he has so much to live for himself. He lunges back when Billy tries to kiss him. Audrey rings a displeased Sarah with the bad news. Tyrone reluctantly agrees to an abortion. In his cups, Billy orders Todd out, but his friend stays and hugs him when he breaks down crying.
