Plot[]
Part One: Billy wakes up on the sofa and stares at Paul’s empty wheelchair and is hit with the sad reality that life now goes on without him. Paul's family and friends struggle with their grief as Gemma tries to explain his death to the children. Billy feels too guilty for not being with Paul when he died. Lisa informs Dee-Dee that Joel’s work phone showed some predatory text message exchanges with Ellie Benton and she’s going to follow it up, despite the risk to her job. Tyrone’s upset as he hears Hope and Ruby enthuse about Dorin, knowing that they might not see him again. Dev can't make the funeral as he's out of the country. Bernie ignores his excuses and subsumes her own grief as she plans Paul's funeral with George. Over a frosty breakfast, Sam urges Leanne and Toyah to forget Nick ever existed and remember that they’re sisters. Craig agrees to help Lisa track down Ellie but is warned that nobody must find out. Alina confirms they will be leaving for Romania tomorrow, but Dorin can spend some time with Tyrone. Billy is in a deep depression in Roy's Rolls. Fiz summons Todd and Summer to help, and Summer lies that Paul was smiling when he heard his voice on the phone.
Part Two: Gemma looks through old family photos and remembers her brother. Bernie rushes round with jobs to do, afraid to confront her loss. Tracy asks Amy to do some shifts in at the flower shop to take her mind off Rowan. Todd recommends that Bernie involves Billy in planning the funeral. Tommy sends Tracy a voicemail telling her how much he misses her. She is pleased to see Amy and Aadi arranging to meet for a drink later. Craig traces Ellie on the police computer. Hope is angry that Alina is taking Dorin back. As Tyrone opens the backdoor to call Ruby and his son in, he’s horrified to find the backyard empty. Not interested in planning the funeral, an obsessed Billy pumps Summer and Bernie for more details on how Paul was in his final moments. He cannot cope with his regret for not being there and puts the blame on Bernie.
Part Three: Billy tells Bernie he doesn't want her taking over the planning of the funeral. Todd fails to reconcile them and Billy storms out of the room. Bernie refuses to cry, saying she'll never stop once she starts, and reveals to a shocked Todd that Paul was already dead when Billy spoke to him over the phone. Tyrone finds Ruby and Dorin playing in the precinct. Lisa informs Dee-Dee of the development with Ellie. Bernie demands that Chesney and Gemma say nothing about the truth about Paul's death to Billy, and tells them that Paul wouldn't have wanted a religious funeral. Fiz reluctantly agrees that Dorin can stay with them for his final night. Leanne admits she can no longer look at the AI version of Oliver. Tracy decides to return to Tommy and tells Amy that she's flying back to Spain tomorrow. Billy cannot find solace in his bible and sobs to himself.
Part Four: Daniel and Dee-Dee remember their time with Paul. Lisa can't get Ellie to talk to her. Daniel thinks for a way to help. Billy has disappeared from his flat. David spots him in Victoria Gardens and gets through to him in his own brusque way. Billy thanks him for bringing Paul into his life. Tracy is put-out when Steve isn't bothered by news of her departure. Daniel tells Lisa that Nicky Wheatley might be able to get through to Ellie. Nick reports to Leanne and Toyah that Rowan has been charged with blackmail and fraud. Billy tells David that he's determined that Paul will have a proper Christian send-off. Tyrone is delighted when Fiz plans a trip to Romania for them to see Dorin. Behind her back, he rings Adam, saying he wants to pursue a prohibited steps order. Billy returns home and apologises to everyone for his behaviour before he breaks down. Bernie still holds back her tears.
