Plot[]

Part One: Lauren wakes up in her squat. Joel books the wedding for 27th September, assuring Dee-Dee that his divorce will have gone through by then. Dee-Dee's keen for them to write their own vows. Betsy continues to take advantage of Carla, extorting money from her for breakfast at the cafe. Roy is discharged from hospital. Leanne confesses to Rowan that she's blown it with Amy. He encourages her to keep trying to convert her. Joel and Dee-Dee team up with Bethany to track Lauren down. Gemma and Chesney worry about their looming eviction. Betsy takes an early lunch from the factory to meet Joel. Dee-Dee looks over Bethany's credit card statement and notices that a one-way train ticket to Warrington was recently purchased. She and Bethany go there to investigate.

Part Two: Carla warns Betsy when she undermines her in front of Beth. When Betsy takes no notice, Carla decides to take action. Brian tips off the Winter-Browns about a three-bedroom house in Balaclava Terrace that will soon be up for rent. Bethany and Dee-Dee make enquiries at a soup kitchen and encounter a woman who says she's seen Lauren. They're directed to a closed-down pub where she might be squatting and informed that Lauren is pregnant. Leanne apologises to Amy for coming on strong and assures her that her Institute experience would be tailored to her needs. Amy agrees to think about it. Toyah suffers abdominal pains at the bistro. Nina's pleased to find Roy making plans to ease himself back into his normal routine. Carla goes to the police station to see Lisa. Betsy demands money from Joel for a new phone. He kicks her out of his car when Dee-Dee rings to say they might have found Lauren.

Part Three: Carla informs Lisa that Betsy's factory trial isn't working out and she's taking too many liberties. They're interrupted by a call from Betsy who's stuck in a rough part of town and needs a lift from her mum. Carla tags along. Roy stands up to a customer who accuses him of killing Lauren, telling him that she has now been confirmed alive. Chesney enquires about the house and discovers it's already been let out. Amy signs up for the retreat. Rowan tries to interest Leanne in investing £40,000 in a new resource centre, promising her she'll be in profit in no time. Lauren sees Bethany and Dee-Dee outside the pub and makes a run for it through the back door, where she runs into Joel. As he threatens her, she faints. They're interrupted by Bethany and Dee-Dee, who take Lauren to a local hospital.

Part Four: Betsy admits to Carla that she wouldn't have grassed her up over the hit-and-run; the lad had it coming. Lauren is kept in hospital overnight for observation. A jubilant Leanne tells Nick and Toyah about the resource centre and says she's already rung the bank manager to talk about remortgaging the bistro. Nick tells it happens over his dead body and makes her see that Toyah is their priority right now. Betsy spies Beth letting herself into the factory after hours. Nina catches Roy heading out the door to go to Warrington and persuades him that he needs rest. He accepts an invitation from Cathy to spend some time with her in Scarborough. Chesney considers letting Joseph stay with Linda at her new flat in Manchester if they lose their home but Gemma refuses to split the family up. Betsy catches Beth sewing labels on t-shirts and realises she's making money on the side. Leanne tells Rowan that it's not the right time for her to invest. Rowan offers to have a word with Nick. Lauren's petrified when Joel appears at her bed. Knowing that the police are on their way to interview her, Joel offers to give Lauren a flat to live in with her baby if she tells them that Nathan was her attacker.

Notes[]

  • Scenes in and around The King's Arms were recorded in Irlam, Manchester. The Tiger Moth, a functioning pub in Swallow Drive, was dressed to look derelict for filming. As Lauren leaves through the back door, she runs into Joel Deering in nearby Robin Drive. In an earlier scene where Dee-Dee Bailey and Bethany Platt alert Joel to Lauren's location, actors Channique Sterling-Brown and Lucy Fallon are on a footpath going towards Robin Drive from the adjacent Dove Drive [1].
  • In order to prevent actress Cait Fitton being seen on location, spoiling the surprise of Lauren's return, all of her scenes at the pub were either inside the building or within a fenced off area at the rear. When not recording, Cait was disguised as a member of the makeup team, wearing a black coat (denoting production crew), keeping her hood up and wearing large glasses. This was Cait's first location shoot for Coronation Street [2].
  • The Gable Street scenes were recorded at the Non-specific street area of the MediaCity studios.
  • A nurse at the Warrington hospital is uncredited although she has a line of dialogue.
  • TV Times synopsis: Joel panics as Dee-Dee and Bethany’s detective work leads them a step closer to finding Lauren, Betsy pushes her luck with Carla, Nina fusses over Roy upon his return from hospital, and Rowan invites Leanne to invest in the Institute.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 4,533,000 viewers (4th place).
