Plot[]
Part One: Carla refuses an invitation from Mary to join her in visiting Roy in hospital but without saying why. Nina notices that Liam seems anxious and is using his inhaler a lot. The man who heard Paul's radio interview is also in the cafe, listening in as Nina tells Evelyn that Bernie will be in later today. Paul, Billy and Gemma are blown away by the sum raised on the MND crowdfunder, sure it will make the council sit up and take notice about the centre closure. Tim gives Steve dating tips as he prepares to meet Carole later in the Rovers. Maria worries that Liam seems withdrawn. Steve turns up at the Rovers suited and booted and is thrown to discover that Carole, although nice enough, is in the company of three of her friends. The man, Denny Foreman, approaches Bernie outside the cafe, telling her he heard Paul on the radio and didn’t realise his son was dying. Bernie covers her shock and makes out that Paul’s already dead.
Part Two: Carole apologises to Steve, saying the loud Aurora and the others insisted joining them in case he was a weirdo. Steve understands but begs Tim for help when he comes in. Aurora also tells Tim to join them and refuses to take no for an answer. Nina tells Maria about Liam. Bernie tells Denny her heart is broken and begs to be left in peace. Mary visits a desolate Roy and tells him she won't let him wallow in self-pity. Rich and Alya arrive for their meeting with Adam. He's taken aback to learn that Alya’s going to work in Dublin and hands out a well-prepared summary of the case, determined to impress her. Roy reveals to Mary that he keeps trying to remember the details of a conversation he overheard between Max and Lauren as he feels sure it’s of significance. She urges him not to give up as it’ll come to him eventually. Tim finds Aurora a handful. Taken with him, she's determined to stay on as Carole's two other friends leave to go into Manchester. Sally calls at the pub and spots Tim with a drunken woman, giggling like a schoolboy. Denny quietly follows Bernie to Paul's flat, and as she rushes in, she fails to see he's managed to wedge the front door open with his foot. Gemma and Paul are shocked to see their dad walk in. When Denny remarks that Paul looks great for someone that’s supposedly dead, Bernie freezes in horror.
Part Three: Bernie and Gemma insist that Denny leaves, but Paul wants to see his dad. A livid Sally orders her husband home. Nina reveals that the police are going to film a reconstruction of Lauren’s last known movements, and Amy offers to mention it on her radio show to raise awareness. Mary returns and tells everyone about Roy's obsession with remembering the conversation. Paul and Denny have a catch-up in the Rovers. He apologises for being a lousy dad and insists he's changed. Alya is taken aback when Rich tells her that he wants her and Adam to work closely together on the case preparation. Carole admits to Steve she's only getting friend vibes from him, and she and Aurora depart. Paul admits to Denny that although he thought he was the last person he wanted to see, he's glad they've made contact. Maria tells Gary about Liam's anxiety, and they can't get a CAMS appointment for months. Liam listens in, deeply troubled. Billy refuses Gemma and Bernie's entreaties that he intervenes between Denny and Paul. In the pub, Denny gives a tipsy Paul shots to drink.
Part Four: Roy prepares to return to the prison, making notes to help him retrieve his memory. As Paul drops his glass, Jenny tells him he's had enough, but Denny wants to pick up some cans on the way home. Sally nags Tim into agreeing not to see Steve while he's single and out on the pull. Billy and Bernie are angry when a drunk Paul and Denny return. Liam signs up for martial arts classes, saying he wants to get out of the flat more and insists he feels a lot better now. Dee-Dee finds Adam working late on the Fabian Croft case and realises he's trying to impress Alya. Paul vomits up his booze and Billy throws a laughing Denny out of the flat. Tim breaks the news to a hurt Steve that he can't see him socially. Roy suddenly remembers what was important - when Lauren and Max were talking about her new boyfriend, she was toying with a new necklace she was wearing which had an unusual pendant. Bernie catches up with Denny who blackmails her into silence with something he knows about her that she wouldn't want the twins to find out.
