Plot[]

Part One: Simon wakes up on the sofa with a hangover. As Bobby clears away the empties, Simon surreptitiously takes a swig of vodka. Bethany has submitted her article to Chit-Chat magazine and is waiting to see if it has been accepted. She still refuses Daniel permission to read it. John Perry starts to get cold feet about his confession. Sarah tells a seething Adam she's happy to sell the flat as she and Damon are going to buy a house with a garden. Nick fails to persuade Leanne to do something romantic on Valentine's Day. Dee-Dee admits to Alya that her relationship with Joel has become more serious and that she is fretting that something could go wrong. Nick and Toyah want to go shopping for a surprise for Leanne and ask a tired and reluctant Simon to drive Sam to his chess competition. Daniel tells Lauren she's ready to sit her English GCSE. Sam admits to Roy that he’s nervous that his opponents will be better than him. Suki Waters encourages Bethany not to publish her article under a pseudonym. A shattered Simon and Sam set off in Leanne’s car. John agrees to make the confession. Dee-Dee tears a strip off Damon for lying on Ed’s insurance forms. However, when Damon alludes to the fact she too has put her neck on the line for her dad, Dee-Dee’s mistakenly assumes that he's alluding to the insider trading. In their car, Sam distracts Simon who loses control on a bend and crashes it.

Part Two: In a panic, Simon orders Sam out of the vehicle and tells him to follow him home. Lauren has doubts when Daniel gives her an exam application form. On the way into the police station, John goes over his confession with Adam. Nick and Toyah return from their shopping trip and admire the engagement ring that Nick’s chosen for Leanne. Daniel answers a call on Bethany’s phone from the editor of Chit-Chat. Back at the flat, Simon admits to Leanne that he pranged her car. Daniel tells Bethany he thinks she can do better than Chit-Chat and she thinks he’s being a snob. She is forced to admit she submitted an article about him, Daisy and Ryan. Daniel’s stunned. Leanne insists Simon goes with her to fetch the car and tell the police what happened if they’re there. He refuses and admits he was over the drink-drive limit. Leanne's horrified.

Part Three: Simon blames everyone but himself for the events surrounding the crash. Leanne insists she’s going to be truthful with Nick. Daniel and Bethany row over whether she’s used him. She finishes with him. John is let go pending investigations after giving his statement. Kevin agrees to fetch the car for Leanne. Sarah is proud that Bethany has got a job with Chit-Chat but is taken aback by the revelation about what the article is about, and she thinks her daughter ought to apologise to Daniel. Adam finds out about the fraudulent insurance claim from an upset Dee-Dee and that Ed was involved in insider trading, which Damon seemingly knows about. Bethany offers to let Daniel edit the article to his satisfaction, saying she wants to continue seeing him. Lauren says she’s not registering for the exam as it costs £150. Daniel offers to lend her the money. Nick sees the wrecked car being brought back and rushes to find Leanne. An upset Simon leaves a message for Peter, saying he needs him and looks up trains to London.

Part Four: Adam makes it clear to Damon that the gloves are off between them if he hurts Dee-Dee in any way. Nick is relieved that Sam is okay. Damon has seen a house he likes. Daniel tells Bethany that he was surprised how good and balanced the article was. He tells her though that Daisy will recognise the article is about her and she needs to prepare her. Lauren registers for the exam. Dee-Dee is annoyed with Ed for telling Damon about the insider trading, but he insists he didn't. Leanne stops Simon when she finds him preparing to leave. Bobby buys Lauren a drink to celebrate her entering the exam. Adam rings Harvey with the news about John, wanting his assurance that he’ll meet his side of the bargain. Nick walks in on Simon and Leanne arguing. She covers for him and lies that the brakes failed on the car.

Notes[]

  • As two episodes had only been shown each week during the previous fortnight, ITV scheduled additional episodes during the next week, with the first of these being shown on this date at 8.00pm.
  • Andy Merchant was the stunt co-ordinator, and Chris Morrison and Ben Sambrook were the stunt doubles for Alex Bain and Jude Riordan for the car crash in 11184.
  • TV Times synopsis: Damon's implied threat unnerves Dee-Dee; Simon crashes Leanne's car while under the influence of alcohol; and Bethany has an admission for Daniel. (Note: This synposis appeared in two consecutive issues due to the late scheduling changes to accommodate football. Its second printing changed the order of the first two plotpoints and had a revised version of the third which read: "and Bethany is finally forced to admit her deception to a stunned Daniel.")
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 3,897,000 viewers (23rd place).
