Plot[]
Part One: Ed is hailed as a hero for saving Michael's life. Dee-Dee calculates that the insurance payout will cover all of his debts. She wonders if the fire was an insurance job but Ed's offended reaction to the suggestion convinces her otherwise. Billy tells Todd about Moses's suspension. Simon discovers he spilt beer over Nick's paperwork while drunk but lets Nick think he's lost them. Steve hands Tracy a list of instructions to make sure that Tommy Orpington is treated like royalty in his absence. DS Swain gives Craig a report from the fire investigator. A guilty Bernie looks after Paul until he gets a replacement PA. Leanne wants to take Simon on at the bistro but Nick refuses as they're already overstaffed. The Baileys are shocked when Craig takes Ed in for questioning again.
Part Two: Moses tells Todd he's moving to London to start a job washing cars. Todd's furious at the injustice. Steve's gutted as he only gets a moment with Tommy before setting off to the airport. Tracy ushers the decorator inside No.1 when Tim, Kevin and Kirk try to drag him round to the Rovers for a pint. At the police station, Ed is shown the fire report which shows the presence of an accelerant in the yard. He explains that he knocked over a bottle of white spirits and didn't have time to clean it up. Leanne asks Carla to give Simon another chance, as he's going through a rough time with Peter leaving. Craig is convinced by the mounting evidence against Ed and regrets looking the other way over the stolen Christmas presents. Bethany has an article rejected by her publisher for not being hard-hitting enough. Ed admits to Michael that the police suspect him of starting the fire. Michael believes that he did and becomes agitated as Ed refuses to admit his guilt. He says he wishes Ed had died in the fire as they'd all be better off without him.
Part Three: Michael demands Ed swear on Glory's life that the fire was an accident. Ed stammers while Dee-Dee lays into Michael for thinking so little of their dad. Daisy chides Bethany for abusing the Rovers' wifi. Tim, Kevin and Kirk wait in vain for Tommy to show. Tommy finishes up for the day. He and Tracy compare notes on their marriages, with Tracy complaining about how unromantic Steve is, and Tommy embittered towards long-term relationships following his divorce. Tommy's grateful when she sees Kirk off when he comes round to fetch Tommy, admitting that he doesn't enjoy being around fans. Simon's ecstatic when Peter rings him to offer him a job on his boat. Michael calls Aggie and tells her that there's something she needs to know. Peter calls back with the news that Mickey has someone else in mind for the job. Simon's gutted. Ed and Dee-Dee are staggered when Michael admits he's told Aggie everything - the gambling, EdiRon, and the fire.
Part Four: Aggie isn't answering Ed's calls. He reaches her by calling Auntie Marcelle and discovers she's washed her hands of him. Michael isn't sorry, insisting that Ed brought it on himself. Daniel gives Bethany a key to his flat so she can work on her articles in private. Seeing no point in lying anymore, Ed confesses Dee-Dee that while he didn't start the fire, he had the chance to put it out and didn't. Simon is about to ask Carla for his job back at the factory when he sees her rewarding Bobby with a permanent job. Ed explains that the fire was an accident, but realising it would solve all of his problems, he allowed it to take hold. He calls it a moment of madness but a furious Dee-Dee points out that he was lucid enough to go to the chippy to give himself an alibi. She's annoyed with herself for standing by him and calls him stupid and selfish. Ed's left alone to cry at No.3.
