Plot[]
Part One: Joseph's recovery continues apace. Billy shows Paul the Christmas jumpers he's bought, determined to get into a Christmassy mood for lunch at No.5. Sarge leaves No.3 without saying where he's going. Max returns the watch that Lauren gave him, telling her it's too generous. Ryan agrees to meet Crystal at a new bar in town later. Bernie tells Shona that the cafe is £80 down. Shona asks Lauren if she took it to buy Max's watch. Caitlin Edwards introduces herself to Chesney, saying she's been summoned due to the hospital's concerns about Gemma's fitness to be around children.
Part Two: Lauren pleads innocence, saying her rich new boyfriend gave her the money for the watch. Shona's suspicious when she changes her story about getting promoted at the call centre when she points out that they're laying off staff. She tells Lauren she's off the rota for the now but Lauren tells her to shove her job. Paul, Billy, Bernie and Dev join Gemma and the quads at No.5 for the early Christmas lunch. Bernie thinks the day is cursed when she knocks over the tree while catching a ball. Ryan gets a surprising call. Asha meets her paramedic colleagues Isla and Miles at Speed Daal. Billy helps Bernie get the tree lit up again. Paul's thrilled with his present from Bernie - a techno-robo puppy that he wanted when he was a child. Asha talks up a tardy Nina, saying she's a designer looking to start her own label. When Nina arrives, she blithely admits that she works in a cafe. Shona finds the missing money stuffed underneath the till drawer. She's mortified when Max tells her she's fired Lauren on her birthday. Christmas is ruined when Chesney and Joseph arrive at No.5 with Caitlin in tow.
Part Three: Caitlin uses the flower shop flat to interview Gemma and Joseph separately. An embarrassed Nina excuses herself from the table when she realises Asha has been lying about her. Shona apologises to Lauren for accusing her of theft and offers her her job back. Lauren refuses to work somewhere she isn't trusted. Gemma's asked if she made Joseph sick to justify all the visits to the hospital. She's horrified by the suggestion and maintains she would never knowingly hurt Joseph. Sarge returns to No.3 laden down with Christmas presents. Shona tells Max she thinks Lauren is making up her rich boyfriend to save face. Nina asks Asha if she's ashamed of the fact she works in a cafe. She accuses her of lying to impress Isla but Asha says she wanted Isla to know she's in a serious relationship. Gemma's told that she can't live at No.5 during the investigation and is only allowed supervised visits with the children. She's forced to agree when Caitlin tells her that the kids will be taken into care if she doesn't.
Part Four: Gemma arranges to stay at the flower shop flat. Joseph thinks it's all his fault. Max and Sabrina call on Lauren with cider and a cake. She's grateful. Chesney is sure that the investigation will clear Gemmma. Ryan tells Leanne that a big gym chain saw his livestream and has asked him to head up their social media team in Manchester. She's happy for him although it means leaving the bistro. Ed asks Sarge why he needs to borrow money if he has enough for Christmas presents. His father says they didn't cost much. Asha tries to please Nina by offering to only see Isla at work from now on. Nina says it's not what she wants and they agree to forget the day's events ever happened. A sad Gemma takes up residence on Paul's sofa, wondering if she'll be able to see her kids unsupervised again.
