Plot[]
Part One: Bernie isn't pleased when Dev blithely tells Asha and Nina that she has her plea hearing for handling stolen goods in court today. The girls advise her to be upfront with Paul and Gemma. Asha reveals she’s meeting Isla after having gone through a difficult shift. Nina reminds her they’re meant to be spending the day together. Joseph goes to school as an angry Chesney argues with Gemma that there's nothing wrong with him and she's worrying too much. Billy's back is still very tender. Bumping into Amy, Nina’s put out that Asha never mentioned an anti-spiking demo that they're going on tomorrow. In front of the girls, Dev invites Aadi to bring Courtney for dinner that night. He keeps quiet that they've split up and lies that Courtney has other plans. Bernie summons her children and tells them about the court hearing. They insist they'll be there for her. Arriving for work at the salon, David and Max find Audrey already there, adamant that she's returning to work. They're worried when she refuses to take on easy duties. Representing Bernie, Joel advises her to plead guilty as the evidence is damning. She refuses.
Part Two: Once in front of the judge, and with her friends and family watching, Bernie changes her mind and pleads guilty. Paul and Gemma are horrified. Nina and Asha have a date day starting with brunch at the Chariot Square Hotel. Nina’s horrified to see Courtney and Darren enter and tries to distract Asha from seeing them. Joel asks the Judge for a recess to discuss sentencing with his client and Bernie has to tell a worried Paul how strong the evidence is against her. Kirk arrives for a haircut and Audrey insists on dealing with him. Asha’s horrified to see Courtney and Darren together and leaps to her feet, accusing Courtney of cheating on her brother. When Nina explains that Aadi and Courtney split two weeks ago, Asha’s outraged that she kept it from her. Paul, Gemma, Dev and Billy hope for the best for Bernie and reel in shock as the Judge states that given her record, they have no other option but to impose a custodial sentence.
Part Three: Paul’s devastated and begs the Judge to reconsider, telling her about his MND and cries how he needs his mum as he's dying. The Judge sympathises but his outburst changes nothing. She adjourns for sentencing reports. Audrey's hands shake as she starts to shave Kirk's neck. Making an excuse she hands over her duties to David and rushes out. Finding Aadi at No.7, Asha finds herself too angry to talk to Nina and runs off to find Isla. Amy bumps into Kate in Roy's Rolls and recognising her from the drop in session, invites her back to No.1 for a chat. Aadi tells Dev that he and Courtney have split up. Dev comforts him. Kate tells Amy how she was raped by a friend when she was drunk and asks her how she overcame her own ordeal. Amy confesses she hasn't managed to do that. David and Max find Audrey drinking in the bistro. David insists they talk. Bernie admits to her children that she might get a six-month sentence - all the time that Paul has left to him.
Part Four: Paul isn't mollified by Bernie's insistence that she'll get time off for good behaviour. She says they should live for the day, and they agree to follow her positive example. Amy summons Summer and cries as her own deep feelings about being raped come to the surface. Audrey admits to David that she's no longer capable of doing the job but she needs the money because of Stephen's actions. Bernie and Billy agree to be upbeat and happy for Paul. Amy feels bad that she wasn't able to help Kate and Summer has to placate her. Nina and Asha meet up. Nina confesses that she's jealous of Asha's friendship with Isla and Asha suggests the three girls have a meet-up to get to know one another. Bernie's family and friends enjoy a bistro meal. Paul insists they look at the practicalities of the help he'll need in the coming months. Despite her assurances, Amy is behind with her university essay. Chesney apologises to Gemma for shouting at her about Joseph. Alone with Dev, Bernie's brave front collapses as she tearfully contemplates not being with her son at the end.
