Plot[]
Part One: Leanne fears Toyah is already dead. Spider informs her that the suspect is a woman called Maggie, whose husband John was part of a gang of drug dealers he infiltrated; Spider persuaded John to testify against the others, but he was found murdered while on bail. Stephen apologises to Elaine for the way he's been behaving lately and they make a lunch date at the bistro. Aadi's disappointed when Dev makes him play a round of golf with local entrepreneur Darren Vance rather than supervise Amy on her first day at the shop. Brian and Isabella return from their trip. Leanne blames Lauren for putting Toyah in harm's way. Carla gets Stephen to impress a new potential buyer for the factory. Elaine is annoyed when he tries to reschedule their date. Audrey hears her lying to Stephen about being at the hairdressers but is forgiving, telling her she knows she's suffering from depression. Toyah realises her kidnapper has a gun. Spider receives a text from Maggie telling him where she is and to come alone, or Toyah will be killed. Leanne worries when he sets off without informing his colleagues of the development.
Part Two: Lauren decides to leave the street, as it's clear no one wants her around. Max persuades her to stay, pointing out that neither of them would have done bad things if they weren't under Griff's spell. Brian is still trying to think up ways to get rid of Isabella. Aadi's embarrassed when Dev sucks up to Darren. Reece asks Lauren to support him at his sentencing tomorrow. Max tells her that if she goes, he wants nothing more to do with her. Spider arrives at the yard and is also taken prisoner. Maggie holds him at gunpoint, accusing him of using her to get to her husband. Getting the pair on their knees, she reveals she intends to kill Toyah to make Spider suffer like she did. Elaine tells Audrey she isn't depressed but admits she's having doubts about marrying Stephen, as he doesn't seem to respect her. Spider goads Maggie, telling her that John got what he deserved. He makes a play for the gun and it goes off in the struggle. Spider is shot and falls to the ground, seemingly dead.
Part Three: As Toyah makes a run for it, she hears another gunshot. She turns to see Spider standing over Maggie's body after knocking her out, revealing his bulletproof vest. Audrey advises Stephen to show Elaine that he appreciates her. Stephen hears from Carla that the buyer's mother recently killed herself but her life insurance won't pay out as there's a twelve month waiting period after a suicide. Darren tells Dev he's planning to buy one of the smaller Freshco units and is looking for investors. He offers Aadi the chance to be his right hand man, taking care of the day-to-day stuff while he works on the deal. Aadi enthusiastically accepts. Stephen confirms that Elaine's life insurance has the same loophole as the buyer's and is furious that his plans are unravelling. Elaine asks him why he's always acts like he'd rather be somewhere else and suggests they call off the wedding. Spider has a cracked rib but he and Toyah are glad to be alive. Leanne lays into him for putting Toyah in danger in the first place. He's upset that people around him keep getting hurt. Brian's alarmed to find Isabella planning another trip with him, since he enjoyed the last one so much. Leanne and Nick tell Spider he can't come round to the flat anymore, as they need to protect Sam. Toyah reveals that Spider is thinking of quitting the police anyway but he tells her he isn't.
Part Four: Spider tells Toyah that what happened has only reinforced his belief that he's making a difference. Lauren tells her dad she's not going to the sentencing. Max is thrilled while Shona begins to thaw towards her. Dev decides to re-mortgage everything he owns in order to invest in Darren's shop. Toyah tells Spider that if he doesn't love her enough to put them before his career, there's no point in carrying on. Stephen suggests that Elaine is having doubts because of Geoff, and assures her that he'd never treat her the way he did. He talks her into going away with him for a few days to the Peak District to try and get the spark back in their relationship. Spider and Toyah split up. He's sad that he's missed his second chance at happiness. As Stephen and Elaine pack for their holiday, he reminds her to take her hiking boots as the hills can be treacherous.
