Plot[]
Part One: Gemma has had a sleepless night, fretting over their total lack of money. Sarah tries to broach the subject of the paternity results with Adam, but he refuses to engage. Shona finds Max emptying the contents of the cupboard into a bag and approves when he tells her that it's for a picnic for Sabrina. Toyah suggests to Spider that although he's short of money, they should look at some properties, but he's non-committal. Elaine confesses to Tim that sometimes she's not sure if Stephen likes her. He agrees to go with her to her Tai Chi class and also ropes Steve in. Adam and Dee-Dee prepare for a custody case in court later in the day. He realises she knows that the DNA results are due that day. Sally and Ed also join the Tai Chi class. Sabrina calls into the cafe and is puzzled when Shona mentions the picnic. Daniel sees that Adam is finding the prospect of an abortion difficult to cope with. Toyah comes across one of Spider's bank statements showing he has more money than he let on. She wonders aloud to Leanne what else he has been lying about.
Part Two: The Tai Chi class begins with everyone enjoying it, though Steve breaks wind loudly when he has to stretch forward. Jenny can't offer Gemma more hours and suggests that she asks Henry Newton if he can help, despite their past history. Gemma doesn't think Chesney would approve. Sarah rushes out of a business meeting with Owen when he tries to pressure her about going to the US with Josie. Elaine is enthusiastic when Gerry suggests a group bonding session over a meal but most of the participants can't make it. A paranoid Toyah goes through Spider's laptop, seeing house searches down south and a list of emails to his ex. Spider walks in as she tells Leanne what she's found. Adam is uncomfortable when his client asks him how many children he has. Spider tells Toyah he's been trying to speed up his divorce and the money in his bank account was for an engagement ring which he suddenly presents to her with a proposal of marriage. She's utterly thrown. Sarah arrives home to find a letter waiting for her. She rings Adam but gets his voicemail. In the courtroom, Adam starts to sweat and suffers a panic attack. He runs out of the room.
Part Three: Dee-Dee tries to calm Adam down. Max gives the food to a grateful Lauren who says her father wants her to visit him in prison. Sabrina spots them and demands to know what's going on. Toyah is not persuaded by Spider's gesture, and he has to confess that he's accepted a job down south. Sabrina doesn't believe Max's assertion that he was only helping Lauren in her time of need. Spider comes clean about being followed and that no one knows where the threat is coming from. Trying to get round Elaine, Stephen offers to take her out and is both jealous and alarmed when she says she's seeing Gerry for the Tai Chi group meal. Max tries to convince Sabrina that he was only trying to help someone who has no one, but she finishes with him. Alerted by Dee-Dee, Sarah looks for Adam and finds him back at home. Gemma can't even afford food for herself, and Chesney is alarmed to find that what they do have is coming from a food bank. He isn't pleased to be told of the Henry Newton suggestion and insists they can manage. Adam explains to Sarah the emotional pressure he is under. She tells him the clinic has phoned, saying the DNA results confirm that he is the father. He is euphoric, but behind his back she looks concerned.
Part Four: Going to the corner shop for a bottle to celebrate, Adam meets Daniel and tells him the news. Daniel is pleased for him, but surprised the news wasn't conveyed in writing. Toyah confides in Leanne that she's not sure if she can cope with the dangerous and secretive side of Spider's work. Behind Chesney's back, Gemma leaves a message for Henry. Lauren apologises to Max for her part in his split from Sabrina. She's delighted when he offers to accompany her on her prison visit to her dad. Toyah tells Spider that she thinks being with him is a risk worth taking and she's accepting his proposal. He's delighted and Leanne opens the champagne. By herself, Lauren rings Reece to tell him not to worry and Max will be with her tomorrow. Stephen follows Elaine and sees her going to the meal with just Gerry. Sarah rips up the letter and throws it in the litter bin on Victoria Street.
