Plot[]
Part One: Gerry Northrop tells Elaine and Stephen that the Tai Chi classes are being made permanent due to high demand. Ryan decides to return to the bistro but worries about how the customers will react to his scars. Gemma thinks about taking extra shifts on at the Rovers to pay for Joseph's summer club but Chesney tells her she's got enough on already. Paul's downbeat after failing to get a job at a call centre. He's annoyed to catch Bernie secreting another crystal in his kitchen and reminds her that he doesn't share her beliefs. Stephen mollifies Carla by offering to set up a video call with a consultant from Seagull Limited. Gemma comperes at the bistro as the chilli eating competition gets underway. The crowds cheer on Dev, Chesney and Shona as they try to eat ten increasingly hot varieties of chilli, from poblano to the Carolina Reaper. Nina minds Hope and Ruby so that Tyrone can attend the Rovers pub quiz. As Gemma reminds everyone to give generously, Paul's never felt more like a charity case.
Part Two: Chesney bails on the penultimate chilli, the Naga Viper, while Dev tries his but spits it out. Shona is crowned the winner when she manages to swallow hers. Hatching a plan, Stephen packs Sarah off to Audrey's to get her out of the factory. The chilli makes Dev feel sick. Leanne calls 111 but the operator tells Dev it serves him right. The contest raises nearly £800. Tyrone joins Roy, Yasmeen and Stu's team at the Rovers pub quiz, while Kevin, Kirk and Michael form a team. A desperate Stephen gets Gabrielle to pose as a consultant from Seagull, promising to make it worth her while. Bernie and Billy argue when he tells her that organised religion is more valid than her superstitions. Asserting that he isn't their patient, Paul storms out. Carla attends the Zoom call with 'Claire' from Seagull. She's taken in by Gabrielle's performance. Stephen panics when Sarah returns from Audrey's and marches into the office, keen to meet the Seagull consultant herself. Paul escapes to the Chariot Square Hotel bar, where he spots his ex, Zac Mayers.
Part Three: Stephen gets lucky as the call ends just before Sarah walks in. Paul drinks with Zac, relishing the chance to forget his troubles for a few hours. He's embarrassed when Zac reminds him that he dumped him by text. Zac reveals that he's a plumber and is working at the hotel. Ryan blanks Daisy in Victoria Street. When she tries to make conversation, he tells her he's now back at the bistro so she can save her guilty conscience for the next person she screws with. Stu feels like a dunce as Roy and Yasmeen answer all the questions between them. Elaine goes for a mojito with Gerry. A short-handed Leanne readily agrees to Ryan returning to the bistro and grants his request that it be behind the bar only at first. Billy worries as he can't get hold of Paul. Zac eyes the bag of charity money in Paul's pocket as the pair drink shots.
Part Four: Tyrone's team come second, with Roy leading his team to victory. A grouchy Stu leaves rather than celebrate with the team. Paul and Zac decamp to the room Zac is working in. Gabrielle doesn't understand why Stephen is slumming it at Underworld. Elaine enters the flat and sees the two of them on a video call. Stephen pretends Gabrielle is a business client called Claire. Zac kisses Paul. Paul stops it and admits he has a boyfriend. They agree to hang out as mates and raid the minibar. Stephen suggests to Elaine that they register their intent to marry as soon as they can. She agrees. Yasmeen apologises to Stu for dragging him out to the pub quiz when he clearly wasn't keen. He in turn apologises for being grumpy. A drunken Paul crashes out on the bed. After he passes out Zac takes the charity envelope and leaves with the money.
