Part One: Max gets up early to release Lauren from the salon. They agree to meet for breakfast. Evelyn receives a call from a withheld number but chooses to ignore it. In front of Elaine, Jenny reports back to Stephen that Owen is not changing his mind about him and Elaine wonders what is going on. She has a sudden idea when Stephen tells her that it's Canada Day. Abi suffers a bad migraine. Billy suggests to Paul that he could baptise him, but Paul refuses, adamant it’s not for him. Evelyn is brusque with a puzzled Abi when she asks how she's overcome her own addictions. Max tells Spider that the CPS want him to make a victim personal statement for Griff’s trial. Spider encourages him to do the right thing and get Griff sent down. Michael shows Sarah his new designs and she suggests booking a meeting with Owen and pitch them to him. Owen makes it clear to Stephen that he finds him pathetic. Determined to win him round, Stephen invites him for lunch. Evelyn calls at the hospital only to discover Cassie has discharged herself.

Part Two: Todd offends Billy when he makes fun of the christening issue. Searching for Cassie, Evelyn is rude to Yasmeen when she asks if there's something the matter with her. Adam finds Sarah and Michael celebrating in the Rovers. When Sarah enthuses about Owen and his passion for Nippersnapper, Adam takes the hump and leaves. PC Davies takes Max's statement. Roy is puzzled about why Evelyn's even spikier than usual. Dee-Dee talks to Paul about her own religious beliefs and he's interested when she tells him that he can be baptised anywhere and not just a church. In the flat, Owen levels with Stephen and admits that he doesn’t trust him and suspects he’s using a consultancy firm on the books named Seagull Limited to siphon money from Underworld, and wants Jenny for himself. Stephen has trouble controlling his temper. As he tries to argue, an embarrassed Elaine, Audrey, Sarah and Michael emerge from a bedroom with flags and treats to wish him a happy Canada Day. Stephen paints on a smile, but he’s taken aback to clock Elaine scowling at him. Evelyn returns home to be met by Tyrone who says that someone called Cath has come to see her. Evelyn enters the living room and is horrified to see Cassie grinning at her from the sofa. Tyrone enquires how they know each other.

Part Three: Evelyn claims "Cath" is a friend of James Woodgate. Tyrone goes to work, and Evelyn erupts at her daughter for coming to the house. When Cassie shows she's desperate to stay clean and reclaim her son and grandchildren, Evelyn relents and offers to help her. Owen is unnerved by the weirdness of the sudden interruption and decides to have nothing to do with the factory, saying there's something strange about Stephen, though the lucrative Nippersnapper deal will still go ahead. Dee-Dee counsels Paul to tell Billy he's not interested in being christened. Shona listens proudly as Max takes PC Davies through his history with Griff and is thanked for his help. Todd makes Paul realise that Billy is only looking for ways to avoid his own grief. Roy overhears when Evelyn asks a staggered Dev for a £5,000 advance on her wages. When Dev refuses, she resigns. Adam assures Sarah he's only worried about the DNA results. Roy offers to lend an emotional Evelyn the money. She thanks him using words that were in the letter he left for her, and he realises she opened it against his wishes.

Part Four: When Roy expresses how angry he is, a hurt Evelyn turns down the loan, telling him she's going away for a while and he won't be hearing from her. Roy regrets his outburst. Stephen assures Elaine that he's not holding a torch for Jenny. Paul tells Billy he's not completely against the idea of a baptism. Max gets a spare set of keys to the salon cut for Lauren, but he pulls back when she tries to kiss him. She's disappointed. Adam returns home in a better mood and glances at Sarah's phone. Evelyn announces she's going away to look after James. Tyrone is dumbfounded, thinking she's being duped by an obvious smackhead like "Cath". Evelyn hugs him and walks out. Carla tells Stephen she too is now interested in Seagull Limited and wants to meet them. Cassie meets Evelyn with her packed bags, upset that Tyrone isn't there. She's told that James is lending them his flat for a few weeks while she goes cold turkey before she can meet Tyrone. The two set off in a taxi.
