Plot[]

Part One: A woman in a pulled-down baseball cap sits on Maxine's bench as Roy approaches No.9 to hand over Freddie to Evelyn. She isn't pleased to hear that he's spending the day with Yasmeen. Tyrone warns her to hide her jealousy. Dee-Dee calls on Sarah who informs her that she and Adam are booked in for their DNA test today. Gemma thinks a sponsored event to raise funds for adapting the flower shop flat for Paul will circumvent his pride in taking the money. She has an idea when Bernie gets chilli juice in her eye. Stephen bombards Owen with texts. With Griff's sentencing coming up, Max has been contacted by a journalist to tell his story, but Shona agrees with him that he should avoid her. The woman in the cap watches from afar as Evelyn and Tyrone welcome Kevin back from Germany. Evelyn walks off with Freddie before the woman can approach her. As Elaine practises her Tai-Chi exercises, Stephen snaps at her and heads off for work, leaving his fiancée worried about his low mood. Gemma tells Billy and Paul about her idea for a chilli eating contest with Dev, Chesney and Shona taking part. They reluctantly agree to the proposal. Bernie secretes another crystal in their flat. Following Tyrone’s advice, Evelyn steals herself and invites Yasmeen and Roy to join her later at the bistro. As Evelyn heads home, she spots the woman across Victoria Street but chooses to ignore her.

Part Two: Max is shocked when Lauren emerges from the tram station. Tyrone sees that something is troubling his gran. Lauren reveals that she fell out with her mum and her boyfriend, she wants nothing more to do with her dad or his right-wing mates and spent last night sleeping in the bus station. Scared that Owen will sack him, Stephen tells Michael he regrets leaving Canada. Making her way to the bistro, Evelyn gets a phone call which alarms her. Shona is less than pleased when Max brings Lauren into Roy's Rolls, and Sabrina is equally unhappy when she comes in and finds out who Lauren is. Avoiding a row, Lauren leaves. Sarah and Adam have their DNA test, the results of which will take two weeks. Waiting for Evelyn in the bistro, Roy rings her but she ignores the call at Weatherfield General's A&E reception as she explains to the clerk that her daughter, Cassandra Plummer has been admitted.

Part Three: Max explains to Sabrina that he was helping Lauren as she was in trouble. Max assures her that he will be firm with Lauren in telling her to stay away. Sarah admits to Dee-Dee that she has no plan as to what happens next. Gemma signs up sponsors. Paul tells Billy he was never christened. Elaine looks for Stephen and Michael tells her that his bad mood is down to the fact he’s missing Canada. The doctor tells Evelyn that her daughter has overdosed on pregabalin, the same drug that she was trying to wean her off last Christmas. She decides not to visit Cassie. Max breaks the news to a begging Lauren that he can't help her. Bernie confirms that Paul wasn't christened as chicken pox prevented him from being taken to the ceremony when he was a baby. Jenny tells a worried Stephen that she will put in a word with Owen not to sack him. A happy meal between Tyrone, Kevin and Abi is interrupted by Roy and Yasmeen, worried that they can't contact Evelyn.

Part Four: Unable to bring herself to leave the hospital, Evelyn is with Cassie when she comes round. Their reunion is a bitter and angry one: Evelyn thinks Cassie is blaming her for all the problems in her life, while the daughter accuses her of walking away from her as usual, especially at Christmas when Evelyn thought she had set her up with somewhere to live. Cassie reveals that she has spoken to Kevin and knows that Tyrone is her own son, and while they are all living like a happy family, she has been abandoned and has had her child snatched from her. Evelyn warns Cassie to stay away from Tyrone, saying that he thinks she is dead. Cassie begs for help, but Evelyn breaks down, unable to stand any more heartache. She implores her not to mess up Tyrone's life as she has her own. Out of sight of everyone, Max has borrowed the keys to the salon and lets Lauren stay the night within. Evelyn returns home, putting on a brazen front and telling a disbelieving Tyrone that she has only been to bingo.
