Part One: Unaware that she's taking high-caffeine pills, Elaine is exhausted after getting no sleep. Stephen makes her take her supposed morning medication and leaves for work. Adam and Sarah agree to meet for lunch. Shona quizzes Max about his new girlfriend, pointing out that she's black and he's been inside for racist crimes. She and David are pleased that he seems to be getting on with his life. A bleary-eyed Brian arrives late for work and reveals that he was up late playing Italian card games with Isabella. Rita disapproves. Owen has emailed Sarah about potential managers when he takes over, but not Stephen. As Steve discusses the sale of the flower shop flat, Amy feels terrible, knowing that Billy, Paul and Summer will lose their home. Sarah confides in Sally that she thinks there's a conflict between Owen and Stephen. Adam is short with a hard-pressed Sarah when she cancels their lunch date. With Summer tagging along for support, Amy meets Adam to discuss her case. She's scared of the financial implications should she lose.
Part Two: Carla tells Stephen that if he doesn’t come up with the money quickly, she’ll sell to Owen. Isabella corners Rita in the cafe, telling her she’s too old to work and Brian needs a younger assistant. Her dislike for Isabella evident, an outraged Rita quits her job. Tracy tells Steve she has a cash buyer for Preston's Petals, but they want an instant answer. Stephen laces Elaine's tea with crushed-up caffeine pills. Aaron returns a pair of Summer's jeans and sees that the shop and flat are up for sale. Summer tears a strip off him, pointing out that because of his failure to admit the truth, Amy and her family are risking everything. As Elaine admits she doesn’t feel well, Stephen feigns concern and offers to go out and get them some food. Adam makes it clear to Sarah that he suspects her of having lunch with someone else behind his back. Alone and overcome by dizziness, Elaine stumbles and hits her head. Stephen arrives home and with a loaf of Freshco bread he's bought and, finding her unconscious, sneaks out again, leaving the bread behind.
Part Three: Sarah can't convince Adam of her honesty. Stephen holes himself up in the cafe. Audrey asks to see his new flat, but her son claims he's too busy to oblige at that moment. Sarah rows in front of the bistro customers with Damon, insisting he leaves the area. He refuses. Tim asks Steve for first refusal on his shares in Street Cars. Steve and Tracy have to reassure Amy when she begins to panic over the costs they face. Elaine comes to but can't get up off the floor. Max confides in David that Bec doesn't know why he was in the STC and that she is Gav's girlfriend. David advises him to dump her. In the Rovers, Rita rants to Audrey and a livid Jenny about how she's been treated. Brian rushes in, desperate to make amends. Isabella follows and Brian has to prevent them arguing. Stephen leaves the cafe and feigns shock when he sees Elaine being put into an ambulance.
Part Four: Elaine tells him she managed to ring 999. Alerted by Sally, Tim follows them on to hospital. Brian is forced to give Rita a pay rise and not to be included in future stock checks to get her to return. Jenny bars Isabella when she complains about her measures and also refers to her as "bar staff". Brian starts to feel the pressure of his cousin's company. Stephen tells Tim he was returning with the bread when he saw the ambulance. Meeting Bec, Max ignores Gav's voice messages. The doctor tells Elaine she's fine, but being kept in for the night and her GP may have to alter her blood pressure medication. She refuses Tim's offer to stay with them while she recovers. Aaron offers to move away from the area to prevent the fallout that everyone is suffering but Amy isn't interested. Stephen and Tim collects Elaine's overnight things. Tim spots the loaf on the side but doesn't register its significance. Back home, Amy overhears Tracy speak of her sorrow over losing the flower shop.
