Part One: Spider has spent the night with Toyah who tries to prepare him breakfast in bed for his birthday, even though he has to rush out. Griff rings him to meet immediately and Spider tells him that he's at the dentist, unaware that he is watching the flat from outside and knows exactly where he is. Shona and Lily have gone to London. Max refuses to bunk off school for the day to help Griff, even though he's told it's going to be an eventful one. Maria, Gary, Alya, Peter, Daryan and Liam take part in a meeting to discuss the forthcoming Weatherfield Peace Festival using the Christmas market site on Victoria Street following Town Hall agreement which she is obtaining today. Griff sneers at their efforts. Chesney outrages Gemma when he tells her that even if they had the money, he wouldn’t waste it on a wedding. Spider comes into Griff's flat as he speaks with Len Cameron with his news for action at the Town Hall today. Spider spots a cardboard box in the flat which Griff passes off as a present for Maria which will bring her peace. Jenny and Stephen visit Teddy. Jenny assures him that one day his memory will return and then they’ll all know the full story regarding Leo. Griff and his cronies set off. Spider makes a hurried call to his handler. Having brought Nina home, Roy tells a disbelieving Brian he's still not buying a smartphone but instead is going to obtain a pager. Sam thanks him for handing over his smartphone present to him, telling how useful it is for his astronomy and giving Roy pause for thought. Spider tries to cry off helping Griff as Max changes his mind and turns up to help. Griff gives the boy secret instructions to carry out.

Part Two: Billy and Summer join hung-over Mike and a bad tempered Esther at the surrogacy counselling session. Left alone with Max, Spider tries to find out what instructions he was given. He leaves Max alone with instructions to stay in the flat. Griff's gang watch from their car as Maria and Alya arrive at the Town Hall. Teddy tells Jenny that with Leo gone he now has no one left in his life. After Mike and Esther tell their story at the counselling session, Billy annoys Summer when speaks up about the difficulties she faces in her life with her diabetes. An angry Gemma finds out that Chesney spent money on an egg barm from Roy's Rolls when he had the usual offer of a free kebab from work. Roy returns from town with a new smartphone. Spider tells Toyah that following Griff's arrest, he's got to go into hiding until the trial. Armed police surround Griff's gang's car but only find cans of beans inside the cardboard box which they are told is for a foodbank. Griff himself arrives at Victoria Court where a watching Max tells him that Spider is within. Griff's trap to expose Spider has worked.

Part Three: Toyah is hurt when Spider packs to leave immediately. He receives an urgent call from Max to meet him. The fracas at the Town Hall has prevented Maria from getting permission for the festival but she is resolved to carry on regardless. Nina struggles to get Roy to understand how texting works. She adds him to the bat-watch group, and he is alarmed to instantly start receiving messages. Dev gives Chesney advice on how to handle a fiancée. Arriving home, Summer and Billy have a furious row about his supposed lack of support. Spider finds Griff in the ginnel instead of Max. Sam shows Roy chess on his phone. He finds all the concepts incomprehensible but only Asha notices his discomfort. Spider tries to explain away his behaviour, but Griff accuses him of being a policeman. Spider smiles as he admits the charge. Griff comes after him with a crowbar and clubs him to the ground.

Part Four: Peter spots Griff and Dave about to finish Spider off and chases them away before ringing an ambulance. Chesney returns home with an empty chilli sauce tub and shows Gemma how he’s turned it into a piggy bank so they can save up for the wedding. Gemma is more concerned that Joseph got into trouble at school for using sign language and intends to have it out with them. Asha is more understanding in handling Roy's confusion over the phone than the others. Griff mobilises his gang, saying it's time for action and they need to move. Roy perseveres and sends Nina an emoji to ask if she wants a cup of tea. Todd confides in Paul that he’s not convinced Mike and Esther are the upstanding Christian couple they make themselves out to be and he intends to do some digging. With Ronnie having moved in with Debbie, Jenny invites Teddy to move in while he recuperates. Stephen's quietly alarmed. Waiting with Toyah at the hospital, Peter and Leanne learn that Spider is a policeman. He is taken into surgery with a bleed on the brain. Griff's gang and Max camp out. Dave turns up with the stolen Speed Daal van into which he puts another box. Max is alarmed about what Griff is possibly planning for tomorrow.
