Plot[]
Part One: Fiz asks Tyrone to remove the John Stape books from the outhouse. Alya starts at the solicitors. Nick wonders if he's right to let Sam see Harvey when Simon tells him it's more important to protect Sam than to please him. Mary doesn't think she has enough experience with men to play a convincing temptress. Ken suggests she find inspiration from actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood, such as Rita Hayworth. Nick and facilitator Karis Jansen take Sam to Highfield Prison. Tyrone finds the outhouse has already been emptied. He assumes Fiz took the books to the tip, unaware that Hope has taken them to school. In the prison visiting room, Sam meets his mother's killer.
Part Two: Sam doesn't say anything to Harvey. The drug dealer provokes Nick by suggesting that Leanne gave him the bruised face, leading Karis to call a time out. Stu runs himself ragged looking after Eliza, keen to show his granddaughter that she can trust him. Mary is late for rehearsals at the community centre as she's busy watching Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce. When she arrives, she delivers a hammy, over-the-top performance which leaves Ken, Brian and Nigel Kipling open-mouthed. Sam tells Nick he was assessing Harvey and wants to carry on. Griff is rude to Jenny when she jokes about him nursing his drink. Fiz and Tyrone realise that neither of them moved the books. At school, Hope sells signed copies of the hardback to her classmates at £5 each. Sam finally addresses Harvey to ask why he didn't fill in his questionnaires. Harvey says he wanted him to get the message. Showing him a photo of Natasha, Sam asks how it makes him feel. Harvey is rattled and gets up to leave, but Sam's suggestion that he's scared of her leads him to sit down in defiance.
Part Three: Toyah and Leanne drink at the Rovers despite Spider and Griff's presence there. Jenny kicks the men out and bars the gang when Griff rants about the danger the country's in. Sam interrogates Harvey, asking him about his childhood to find out why he thinks he has the right to take another life. Harvey shows no remorse for killing Natasha. Nigel realises he can't put Mary on stage and scrambles to find a last-minute replacement for her. Harvey reveals to Sam that his parents are dead, with his mother passing away when he was fourteen. Theorising that his mother's death caused him to go off the rails, Sam throws more questions at Harvey and starts to crack his cool exterior. Tyrone and Fiz ask Hope if she knows where the books are. She makes out she threw them in a bin in Tile Street. Ken, Brian and Wendy try to persuade Mary to dial down her performance. Mary insists that as the leading lady she must own the stage. Harvey starts to get irritated with Sam and stops the meeting when the boy asks if his mother would have been proud of him.
Part Four: Stu takes Eliza to her gymnastics class, which is miles away. Hope brags to Sam that she made £75 selling the books and has never been more popular. Nigel gets in touch with an actress friend to replace Mary. Brian and Ken threaten to quit the production if Mary goes and ask if he'll consider getting the actress to coach Mary instead. He agrees but insists that if his friend wants to play the part, Mary will have to step aside. Hope messages her classmates informing them that tomorrow she's planning a special tribute to her dad. Stu makes a timetable of all of Eliza's extra-curricular activities. Yasmeen suggests he enrol her at Weatherfield High to save himself the drive but he refuses as she's had enough upheaval. Nick is proud of Sam for dealing with Harvey in such a mature manner. He hopes that Sam got the answers he was looking for so that Harvey will be out of their lives again. A rage-filled Harvey trashes his cell after Sam's visit. As he kneels in anguish, he looks over at Sam's most recent letter.
