Part One: Stu's nerves are overcoming him on the day he prepares to properly meet his granddaughter Eliza, and Yasmeen agrees to come along as moral support. Ronnie tells James there’s a youth centre near Lewisham looking for a football coach. Realising it’s close to where Danny Tomlinson lives, James promises to call them straight away. Rita calls on Jenny and finds her unkempt and slouched on the sofa, feeling sorry for herself. Whilst sympathetic, Rita warns her she won't listen to her self-pitying for ever and to just get on with her job. Aadi urges Dev to make a go of things with Bernie if that’s what he wants. In the cafe, Ken beavers away on the Roxanna script. Brian has a look at it and accuses him of bigging up Wendy’s part simply because he fancies her. Bridget and Eliza arrive at Speed Daal and the little girl smiles up shyly at her delighted grandfather.

Part Two: An excited James tells Ronnie that he got the job and starts tomorrow. Ronnie worries about Aggie's reaction to her son leaving. Eliza loves a necklace that Stu gives and which he bought for Bridget's birthday years before. Stu is delighted with her response, declaring it the best day of his life, but Bridget looks troubled. Glenda arrives for work dressed to the nines and ready to host the quiz but is furious when Daisy tells her Jenny is feeling better and will host the event. Daisy puts her to work cleaning. Mary suggests to Brian that they observe Ken and Wendy carefully and take action if his crush on her is adversely affecting the play. Dev calls at No.5 and admits to Bernie that he thinks about her a lot and reckons they should give their relationship another chance. Bernie’s taken aback but pleased. Dee-Dee has managed to get Margaret Lennox to agree not to complain about Stu. She tells Alya that there was no trace of Stu’s DNA on Charlie Walter’s bag, but it will be expensive to get the evidence re-tested. Jenny enters the bar for the quiz all dressed up, but suddenly falls badly on Glenda's mopped floor. Daisy insists on taking her to A&E. As Jenny hobbles out, Glenda grabs the microphone. Bridget is more than happy to meet Stu again but the mood changes when Lucy suddenly arrives and insists that Bridget and Eliza leave the restaurant immediately. In the bistro, James breaks the news to the family that he’s landed a London job. Aggie struggles to be cheerful. To break up the cheerful party, Lucy tells Eliza her grandad has been in prison. Stu's family leaves after Bridget makes a comment about her mother being hard-faced "after everything". Alya listens intently.

Part Three: Alya runs after them and asks Bridget what she knows about Stu's case, and then accuses a flustered Lucy of hiding vital information when she covers for her daughter. Ed finds Aggie alone and makes her realise how much happier James seems now. At a rehearsal, Mary is put out to find her lines have been cut while Wendy's part has been expanded. She walks out, as does an embarrassed Wendy. Brian tells Ken he has to face up to his feelings concerning Wendy. Dev feels uncomfortable at having Bernie back working as his cleaner. Stu insists to Alya that Lucy and Bridget know nothing special about his case. At the hospital, Daisy receives a text from Gemma which seems to indicate that the quiz night is going badly. The two women are quietly pleased. Jenny is told that she has a bad sprain and stay off her feet for a week. Alya tells Dee-Dee of her suspicions. Aggie gives James her blessing. Jenny and Daisy return to the Rovers and find the place packed out in a party atmosphere and in thrall to Glenda's handling of the quiz. Put out, they hear from Gemma that her text had another meaning and the takings are the best they've had in months. Alya is determined to find the cash for the DNA test and Yasmeen thinks of someone they could ask.

Part Four: Having scored a hat trick in her first game, Lily gives James her signed shirt as a going-away present. As a quiz tie-break, Mary and Dev have to do an Irish dance which Mary wins. Bernie calls Fern and tells her that she’d be up for any more jobs she can throw her way. Yasmeen asks Stephen for the money but Stu steps in and stops her. A sulking Jenny tells Daisy she believes Glenda orchestrated her accident. Stu tells Yasmeen and Alya that he no longer wants to pursue his case and simply wants to leave the past in the past. Arriving back at Bridget's house, Lucy tells her daughter she's not going to spend the rest of her life behind bars because she's slipped up and told all she knows. The Baileys and the County supporters in the street say goodbye to James as he leaves in a taxi.
