Plot[]
Part One: David rings round his clients to cancel their appointments while Gail tries to contact Audrey. David has had a word with Peter about the family getting advice from him for dealing with his gran. Meanwhile, a weakened Audrey has spent the night on the floor of the barbers. Tim and Sally compare their lists of things of things that make them happy and intimate, and Tim proposes lunch together at the bistro for a "first date", both as part of their therapy. Maria plans to meet with a team leader from the refuse depot to negotiate the strike being called off. Eileen gets fed up of George avoiding Frank by staying in other rooms of the house when he's present. Peter rants to Ken and Carla about Thorne, sure that he's going to get off because of his posh connections. They counsel him to let the matter go and move forward. Peter joins the Platts and tells them not to be heavy handed with Audrey. Aggie confides in Tim that she and Ed have had a row and she wishes they were as close as him and Sally. Brian can't get a response from the barbers. He and Elaine hear a weak cry coming from inside. Brian rushes to get help as a taxi draws up and Stephen Reid emerges. Elaine tells him what's going on.
Part Two: To start off their meal, Sally presents Tim with a cravat she's made to emulate his hero Paul Weller. Tim's distracted when he sees Ed and Ronnie talking across the restaurant. They tell Debbie that the subject of the marital row is that Toyah hasn't paid that month's flat rent and Aggie thinks Ed's being a pushover for not chasing her. Tim texts Aggie to say where she can find her husband. Stephen breaks down the door and finds his mum under the bike. Elaine rings an ambulance. Maria meets Jimmy Dixon who instantly demonstrates sexist attitudes when he sees that Councillor Connor is a woman. Sally gets annoyed as Tim continues to text Aggie and walks out of their meal. Eileen tells George she's fed up of him avoiding Frank. Brian alerts the Platts to what's happening at the barbers. Jimmy accuses Maria of scaremongering on environmental matters. She promises to ask about a pay rise for the increased workload but is disheartened by his attitude. The Platts are astonished to see Audrey being put in an ambulance with Stephen there. He berates them for their neglect. Going through Ken's file of journalist clippings with his grandad, Simon finds his old Dictaphone. Peter thinks his only chance of beating Thorne is to get him to confess. Stephen makes it clear to the family that he is the one who is going to accompany Audrey to hospital.
Part Three: Audrey is taken for a scan. Gail joins Stephen in the waiting area where she hears that Sarah rang him about Audrey's problems and said that she was making things worse. She's outraged. Sally goes to work rather than listen to Tim's excuses as to why he was so distracted on their date. Gary fixes the door to the barbers. Maria is interviewed by a journalist about the strike and makes a passionate speech about recycling. Sarah brings her mum and uncle refreshments in the hospital where Gail berates her for exaggerating matters to Stephen. Eileen tells Todd what the problem is between her and George. Seeing Sally alone with her thoughts, Steve hears that she feels there's a breach between them. Steve assures her that Tim adores her. Intrigued by a text making an offer, Thorne meets with Peter. Gail gets annoyed at Stephen for leaving her out of matters at the hospital. The doctor tells them their mother has a ruptured spleen and needs surgery. Peter tries to wring a confession out of Thorne, but he guesses that he's recording his conversation on his phone and makes him switch it off. Thorne then gloats about his unethical practises, upon which a triumphant Peter produces Ken's Dictaphone from his pocket.
Part Four: A panicking Thorne offers Peter money to destroy the recording, but he refuses on principle, even though the offer is upped to £100,000. At Sally's request, Steve gets Tim into the Rovers where she can try again on their "first date". Gail and Stephen compare notes as to who is Audrey's favourite and reach an understanding when Stephen voices his fears that he's not been there enough for his mum. Tim and Sally enjoy their date. Maria is despondent to find that a video making fun of her has been uploaded on social media. Audrey's surgery is successful. Todd tells George he they need to catch out Frank being a bully. Audrey comes round, delighted to see Stephen but she rejects a tearful Gail, accusing her not caring.

Notes[]
- Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this episode was made with social distancing rules being observed by both cast and production crew. Exceptions were occasionally made for instances in which characters were required to be in close contact. These were made in accordance with the rules by employing measures such as more frequent testing and cast members bubbling up together prior to recording. The system of a one-metre rule was dropped at the start of May 2022, during which time this episode was within the block already being recorded and it therefore contained a mixture of scenes with and without social distancing. The first episode without any social distancing was Episode 10677/8 (29th June 2022), though still with testing for any significant physical contact.
- First appearance of Stephen Reid since 26th December 2007.
- Simon Barlow finds a clipping from the Weatherfield Gazette of Ken Barlow's review of Grease that featured in Episode 5715 (17th March 2004). Peter Barlow finds a similar clipping of the front page article regarding Ken fighting his son's proposal to open The Joinery that appeared in Episode 7229 (14th December 2009), and Peter tells his son that due to his drinking the establishment opened and closed on the same night, referencing events in Episode 7268 (5th February 2010).
- The Rosamund Street Medical Centre set was redressed as Weatherfield General's A&E for this episode.
- Mark Strange was credited as the fight arranger for the scene where Stephen Reid breaks down the door of Trim Up North in 10673.
- TV Times synopsis: Audrey's Stephen arrives; Tim neglects Sally while worrying about Aggie; and Thorne rumbles Peter's attempt to record his confession.
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 5,105,000 viewers (4th place).
