Plot[]

Part One: Summer awaits her English Literature exam. She's anxious not to make even a single mistake. Leanne discovers that Toyah never went to Kirsty's and frets over her whereabouts. Brian promises to take Cathy out. Leanne protects Toyah when the neighbours ask after her. Jenny and Daisy sample Leo's homebrew only to find that it's horrible. Adam considers the possibility that Toyah knew that Imran was changing his will and caused the car crash deliberately. Zeedan overhears him and Peter discussing the case in Speed Daal and finds out that Toyah has gone AWOL. Summer buckles under the pressure and consults Aadi's revision cards during the exam. She's seen unzipping her bag by an invigilator but her cover story that she's reaching for her blood sugar testing kit is believed. She's led from the room to test herself. David and Shona are intrigued when Max cooks them a surprise tea. Zeedan tells Alya that Adam and Peter are suspicious of Toyah. Summer discovers that the cards aren't in her bag. Another invigilator finds them on the floor in the exams hall and, recognising the handwriting as Aadi's, takes him outside to explain himself.

Part Two: Aadi insists he didn't look at the cards. Summer goes back inside to finish her exam. Alya tackles Leanne about Toyah's disappearance. She says she's looking out for Imran but Leanne calls her a gossip and throws her out of the bistro. Jenny cancels the homebrew launch. Brian puts himself and Cathy forward as an informal tasting committee. Eileen asks Frank to apologise to George for any upset he caused him back in the day. Frank acts surprised that George found him objectionable. Aadi doesn't return to the exam. Frank tells George that he's sorry if he upset him in the past and offers to take him and Eileen out to bury the hatchet. George plays dumb, making out that he barely remembers him. Leanne tears a strip off Adam for blabbing within earshot of Zeedan and threatens to report him for breaching confidentiality. He insists that he's only trying to establish the facts. When he mentions that he was talking to Peter, she marches over to No.1 to have it out with her ex-husband.

Part Three: Peter tells Leanne he was defending Toyah, knowing that she wouldn't have cared about the will. Aadi tells Summer that he's being investigated for cheating. She offers to confess to Mrs Crawshaw that she's the cheater but Aadi assures her it'll blow over. Peter reminds Leanne that Toyah deceived them both over Susie, and suggests that the threat of losing another child caused her to behave irrationally. Leanne tells him to keep his theories to himself. Frank and Sean treat Eileen and George to dinner at the bistro. George is surprised when Frank is kind to him and wonders if he really has changed. Arriving for the beer testing, Cathy is annoyed that her date night is only at the Rovers. Daisy switches the pumps so that she and Brian are drinking bitter instead of Leo's homebrew. Leo is offered a job but considers turning it down in favour of beer brewing, to Jenny's horror. Dev doesn't believe that Aadi would cheat and suspects he's covering for Summer.

Part Four: Jenny admits to Leo that his homebrew is terrible and urges him to accept the job. George hears Frank singing a song he used to sing to torment him at school and accuses him of doing so knowingly. Todd is amazed that Dev thinks Summer could have framed Aadi. David and Shona lap up Max's meal. He admits he's practicising in order to impress his new girlfriend. Eileen despairs when George refuses to stay another night at No.11 until Sean has seen the error of his ways. Todd asks Summer if there's any truth in what Dev said. She assures him there isn't. Leanne confesses to Nick that she's only been so defensive because she's worried that Toyah did crash the car on purpose. Toyah lies crying in her darkened flat.

Notes[]

  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this episode was made with social distancing rules being observed by both cast and production crew. Exceptions were occasionally made for instances in which characters were required to be in close contact. These were made in accordance with the rules by employing measures such as more frequent testing and cast members bubbling up together prior to recording. The system of a one-metre rule was dropped at the start of May 2022, soon after this episode finished recording and it is therefore the final instalment with any distancing rule in place throughout. The next sixteen episodes were recorded during the period of the rule change and therefore contain a mixture of scenes with Episode 10677/8 (29th June 2022) being the first without any social distancing, but still with testing for any significant physical contact.
  • TV Times synopsis: Aadi stands accused of Summer's misdemeanour; Frank offers George an overdue apology; and Jenny discovers there is trouble brewing for Leo. Meanwhile, suspicions mount about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 5,043,000 viewers (5th place).
