Plot[]

Part One: Toyah and Leanne discover that DS Swain knows about Imran's planned confession. Swain asks if Imran admitted that he lied in court and the pair were arguing about it at the time of the crash. Toyah insists that Imran never came clean to her. Abi is surprised when Kelly reveals that it was her who went to the police. Toyah is accused of crashing the car deliberately to punish Imran for his actions. She says she would never do so as she loved Imran. Abi is upset that Alfie will be taken into care. Kevin assures her that they'll fight for him. Kelly worries that she's trashed Imran's reputation for nothing by telling everyone that he lied in court. Toyah is discharged from hospital. She and Leanne bring Alfie home. Leanne offers to stay the night but Toyah insists she'll be fine on her own. She bursts into tears the minute Leanne leaves.

Part Two: Toyah plugs in her phone and hears the voicemail from Imran. The message causes her memories of the crash to return.

Driving back from the police station, Toyah accuses Imran of going soft on Abi because he's having an affair with her. He denies it and argues that they drove Abi to snatch Alfie by pushing her to the point where it was the only option she had left. Admitting that he and Ben committed perjury to ensure that Abi didn't get Alfie, he tells Toyah that he thought the ends justified the means but now sees that he was wrong. He explains how frustrated he was that Abi's drug tests kept coming back negative and how scared he was that she would relapse when Alfie was in her care and asks Toyah if it was all worth it. Toyah is scathing, noting that his confession will cause them to lose Elsie and Alfie, and Imran to be struck off. She wishes she'd never taken him back. Imran tells her how sorry she is but Toyah retorts that she hates him with all her heart. The car crashes into the scaffolding at full speed. Imran frees himself from the wreckage and manages to pull Toyah out before the scaffolding collapses over the vehicle. Paramedics declare Imran dead when he fails to come round after twenty minutes.

Toyah deletes Imran's voicemail.

Notes[]

  • Continuing, albeit with some amendments, a tradition established in 2010, Coronation Street was transmitted at 7.30pm each weekday as a half-hour episodes before an extended edition of Britain's Got Talent.
  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this episode was made with social distancing rules being observed by both cast and production crew. Exceptions were occasionally made for instances in which characters were required to be in close contact. These were made in accordance with the rules by employing measures such as more frequent testing and cast members bubbling up together prior to recording.
  • Flashbacks to Episode 10653 (31st May 2022) (denoted by italics in the Plot section) depict the events leading up to the car crash which was mentioned but not seen at the end of that episode. Imran Habeeb appears in these segments only, in Charlie De Melo's final contribution to the series.
  • The site of Imran and Toyah Habeeb's car crash was actually Pilkington Glass Works in Canal Street, St. Helens. Earlier scenes of the Habeebs setting off from Weatherfield Police Station and Toyah stopping the car to argue with Imran were shot at the same location, on the opposite side of the railway bridge. The other driving scenes were recorded in Manchester, with Toyah turning from Gorton Road into Vaughan Street in the West Gorton area of the city before heading west on Ashton New Rd, in reality several miles north of their previous location. The action then cuts back to St. Helens for the crash scene.
  • Justin Pearson was the stunt co-ordinator with Xavier Lake and Heather Phillips as the stunt doubles for the scenes involving Toyah and Imran Habeeb's car crash.
  • TV Times synopsis: Kevin assures Abi they will keep fighting for custody of Alfie; and the police are not convinced that Toyah and Imran's crash was an accident.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 5,329,000 viewers (12th place).
