Plot[]
Part One: Sally makes plans to return to Newcastle when Gina takes a turn for the worse. Craig is thrilled to receive an e-mail confirming that he's been re-admitted to the police. He and Faye plan a meal at the bistro to celebrate and invite Emma along but she says she's meeting "Martin" again. Ahead of Abi's custody hearing, Imran warns his client that her chances aren't good. Billy grows concerned that Summer is working too hard when he sees her bedroom light on at two in the morning. Gary asks Kelly to forgive Laura as she's withering away without her daughter's support. Kelly refuses and says she wishes she'd left her to die instead of taking her in. Sarah hears their conversation. Abi has last-minute jitters at court as the environment reminds her of losing the twins. Tim takes Elaine out to the bistro and hints that it's time for her to move out. Abi is shocked to learn that Imran could be struck off if the authorities learn that he's fighting a custody case concerning his own son. Toyah arrives to support them as they enter the court room.
Part Two: Billy worries that Summer isn't eating enough. The local authority solicitor uses Abi's history of drug addiction and neglectful behaviour towards her other children to argue that Alfie isn't safe in her care. The police take Laura away for her plea hearing. Imran pleads Abi's case, telling the judge that she's still grief-stricken over Seb's death and only rejected Alfie initially as she had just been through a traumatic and unexpected birth. He asks the judge to trust her determination to be a good mother. Sally is dismayed when Tim and Elaine show up at No.4 armed with rolls of wallpaper, Elaine having taken Tim's comments about her needing to live somewhere homely as an offer to decorate her bedroom. Sarah asks Gary why Laura is taking the rap for Rick's murder when he's the guilty one. The judge rules in favour of Alfie being taken into care.
Part Three: Imran tells Abi they aren't beaten as there'll be another hearing in a few weeks but Abi thinks it'll go the same way. She discovers she'll only have Alfie until he's discharged from hospital. Sarah demands Gary set the record straight. He says he can't as Laura wants him to look after Kelly. Sally is annoyed that Tim is too weak to give Elaine her marching orders. She tries to do so but chickens out herself. Todd offers Summer money to go out and enjoy herself. She says she will after her mocks. Toyah notices how deeply Abi's case is affecting Imran. She suggests that it's time to take a step back and concentrate on Elsie's adoption hearing. Imran has no choice but to agree. Kevin gives Abi his regards and asks her to pop round and pick up the last of her things from No.13. Emma arrives at the Chariot Square Hotel for her secret date with Jon. Toyah lets slip to Abi that Imran is dropping her case. Abi masks her anger.
Part Four: Imran goes to visit Alfie at the hospital and discovers that Abi has barred him from seeing his son. Jon surprises Emma by booking them into an expensive suite at the hotel. Summer reluctantly agrees to forego her studies for the night after nagging by Billy and Todd. His guilt getting too much to bear, Gary tells Maria he's going to confess to Rick's murder. Imran explains to Abi that he had to step down as Toyah was getting close to the truth. He promises to find someone else to represent her. Still feeling that he's deserting her, Abi is stunned when he says he'll put his name on the birth certificate if necessary so that he can claim custody as Alfie's father. Maria reminds Gary that Laura chose to confess and begs him to hold his nerve. Imran gets Elliot Newell to represent Abi and promises to pay the fees himself. Abi thaws towards him but is incredulous that he thinks he can keep it from Toyah.
