Coronation Street Wiki

Plot[]

Part One: Abi tries unsuccessfully to stop passing drivers as she realises her waters have broken. Kevin tells an appalled Debbie how he found his wife with drugs, and that she cheated on him. In the Rovers, Daisy shows Amy the anti-spiking lids she has bought to fit over the top of their drinks. Amy's impressed, while Daniel masks his unease. As darkness falls, a driver finally stops for Abi. He thinks she's drunk but she convinces him that she needs help. Michael takes photos of Glory from an album as the nursery needs them for her start day tomorrow. Maria thinks she needs a slogan, posters and leaflets for her campaign. In order to focus on it, she tells Kelly she needs to increase her shifts at the barbers for her. Kelly wonders how she's going to fit in visits to Laura. Abi is dropped off at the hospital. Imran looks forward to Elsie being his daughter. Debbie takes her frustrations about Abi out on Leanne. Midwife Judith Roberts demands Abi tells her how long she's been pregnant and what drink and drugs she's taken. Abi gives a false name, afraid she'll be reported to the police as her birth goes into its final stages.

Part Two: Nick's concerned to learn from the school that Sam's fallen behind with his school work while focusing on chess. Abi refuses to give Judith a contact name. Simon's concerned when Kelly takes a call from Laura to say she's fallen. Nick puts his foot down, telling an upset Sam he’s not to play chess for a while. Leanne thinks he's done the wrong thing. Abi gives birth to a three-month premature boy. She cries as she hears him cry. Chatting to Michael, Beth suggests that he's been overruled too much by his family about Glory's needs and Grace should be involved in her upbringing. Tyrone discovers the car missing from the garage. The baby is transferred to intensive care as he has breathing difficulties, possibly caused by Abi's drug misuse. Kelly nurses Laura and lies to Maria about her whereabouts when she calls her, saying she's staying with a friend for the night. Abi absconds from the hospital.

Part Three: Abi makes her way to No.13 where she collapses in exhaustion on the sofa. Sam uses a torch to read up on chess instead of sleeping. Aggie looks through the photos for the nursery and finds one of Grace in there. She removes it, despite Ed's protests. Debbie finds Abi in the house and mistakes her condition for a hangover. She demands she leaves. Sam asks Gail to speak to Nick about letting him play chess. Maria's furious when Kelly fails to turn up for work. Asked if he knows anything, Simon realises it's time to tell Gary and Maria the truth. Nick tells a sympathetic Roy the reasons behind the chess ban. Reporting for work, Aggie gets details from a nurse about the missing woman and the baby, telling her that the press are putting out an appeal. Kelly makes Laura eat some breakfast. Gary turns up at the flat.

Part Four: Gary hears from Laura and Kelly the full truth about what's been happening and accepts that Laura is telling the truth about her terminal condition, but thinks that she ought to be in hospital. Kelly refuses to let her be cared for by a stranger. Daisy's thrilled by Daniel's show of commitment when he suggests they book a holiday. Shona is embarrassed when Daisy hands her one of the anti-spiking lids. Maria puts her new campaign posters up. Tyrone reports the missing car to the police and breaks the news to the owner. Abi denies any knowledge of the theft, despite there being no sign of an obvious break-in. Nick admits to Gail that he’s worried Sam is using chess as a distraction so he doesn’t have to think about Natasha's death. Maria and Gary promise Kelly their support though they think she's taking on too much and demand no more deceptions from her. Michael is angry when Ed admits that Aggie removed Grace's photo, convinced that she will one day return. The hospital's CCTV shots of Abi aren't clear. At No.13, Abi swigs back drink from a bottle.

Notes[]

  • With this episode, Coronation Street moved to a new schedule of three hour-long instalments at 8.00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As with recent double episodes, each instalment carried two production codes. This was so that they could be split into two half-hour episodes, both for overseas transmission and to accommodate last-minute schedule changes.
  • To promote the new schedule, the programme's social media accounts released a trailer for the week's episodes which premiered once the twist regarding Abi Webster's pregnancy had aired on Sunday 6th March [1].
  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this episode was made with social distancing rules being observed by both cast and production crew. Exceptions were occasionally made for instances in which characters were required to be in close contact. These were made in accordance with the rules by employing measures such as more frequent testing and cast members bubbling up together prior to recording.
  • Alfie Franklin appears in 10581 but is portrayed by a prosthetic baby due to the character's premature birth.
  • In a continuity error, Alfie Franklin's full name is shown on his incubator even though the character would not be named until 11th March 2022.
  • The nurse who greets Abi Webster at Weatherfield General is uncredited although she has lines of dialogue.
  • TV Times synopsis: Tyrone suspects Abi of stealing a car; Nick blames Sam's chess obsession for a decline in his schoolwork; and Kelly struggles to balance caring for Laura with her other commitments.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 5,664,000 viewers (7th place).
