Plot[]
Part One: Gemma takes Bernie to task for upsetting Freda. Chesney and Roy can't find her on the Red Rec. Gemma gets Chesney to go to Stillwaters and see if they're there. She rings Charlie and finds out that Freda had the key to the community centre. Freda is hiding there with Aled, using sign language with him. She refuses to unlock the door for Gemma and Bernie when they arrive. George enjoys Lisa's company in the Rovers while they discuss Norris's order of service. Gemma interrupts, desperate for Lisa's help in interpreting with Freda.
Part Two: Lisa is sympathetic to Freda's state of mind. Using BSL to communicate through the centre window, Freda refuses to give him up, saying no one is listening to her and they are ignoring the fact that Aled is still deaf inside himself. She tells them about the difficulties of her upbringing when she missed so much from people who isolated her from their world because she was deaf. Aled's cochlear implant will not fully cure his hearing, he will not be "normal" as Bernie claimed, and he will end up similarly isolated if they all drop the lessons. Gemma is puzzled as to what they mean by this, and Bernie is shamefaced as Freda tells her that she watched her and Chesney discussing the matter. Billy agrees to conduct Norris's service. Gemma is furious with her mother and assures Freda that the lessons will continue. Audrey goes through photos of Norris for his picture board at the wake. Gail suddenly walks into the house, back from Thailand for Norris's funeral. Rita is summoned, showing her sympathy and understanding as to how lonely Freda feels. When Craig arrives in a police car, called by Chesney, Freda opens the door and lets them in. Audrey gets maudlin as she thinks over the lost friends that she used to enjoy socialising with at the Rovers. Aled has missed his operation and has to go back on the waiting list. Chesney insists to Gemma that Freda's barred from seeing their son. Freda receives a slap on the wrist. Bernie apologises to her for what she said and sympathises with her stresses. Roy hopes tomorrow's funeral will be a fitting goodbye for Norris.
