Plot[]

Part One: It's the day of Harvey's trial. Emma continues to follow Tracy's hard-to-get strategy, ignoring a text from Curtis asking to meet up today. Jenny tells Ronnie that he's welcome to move back in when Johnny leaves, strictly as a guest. Tyrone sits his motorbike test. Afterwards, he tells Alina he's too busy with work to ride the vehicle. Emma is aloof with Curtis when she bumps into him in the street. The trial gets underway with Leanne entering the witness box.

Part Two: Leanne starts her testimony by recounting how Simon was groomed and set up by Jacob and identifies Harvey as the man in charge of the drugs operation. Fiz and Evelyn are in hysterics when they see Tyrone in his motorbike gear. Tyrone is forced to admit in front of Alina that he didn't pass his test. Carol calls at the Rovers, saying she wants out of Double Glammy. Daisy refuses to buy back the unsold stock as she's signed a contract. Leanne details her dealings with Harvey, being honest about her and Simon trafficking drugs to pay off Simon's debt. She details everything Harvey has done to intimidate them, including kidnapping Sam and firing shots at Nick's car. Harvey quietly fumes as she tells the jury how he threatened to harm her and Simon if they testified against him. Summer is discharged from hospital. Billy helps her with her first insulin injection. Leanne faces Harvey's barrister, who alleges that she got involved with the drugs gang to make money. She's accused of doing whatever was necessary to stop Simon from going to prison, including deflecting the blame onto Harvey. Daisy tells Carol that her only option is to pay a few grand to terminate her contract. She refuses to give her a refund as everyone will want one. Simon doesn't have to give evidence as a new witness has come forward. A confused Curtis tells Steve that Emma has gone cold on him. In court, Sharon takes the stand and corroborates Leanne's testimony about Harvey's intimidation tactics.

Part Three: Sharon gives a damning report of Harvey's violent nature and how he exploits vulnerable children for his own gain. Emma admits to Steve that she's been taking advice from Tracy and is regretting it now. Sharon tells Leanne that she's cut a deal with the police to put the final nail in Harvey's coffin. Leanne has doubts about her sincerity. Sean finds Carol passed out in Victoria Gardens and calls Dr Gaddas, fearing she's overdosed. Jenny is amazed to see Sharon calling on a welcoming Rita. Rita is proud of her foster daughter for helping to get Harvey off the streets. Alina encourages Tyrone not to feel apologetic for having fun. Dr Gaddas brings Carol round.

Part Four: Carol is sorry that she's survived as she's about to be evicted and can't bear to go back on the streets. She admits she spent the money Sean gave her on drugs. Steve encourages Emma to ignore Tracy and follow her heart. Sean drops Carol off at a mate's. He feels shame at how her life has been ruined by Double Glammy. Eileen tells him he's partly responsible as he maintains a fake image and convinces other people that they can have it. Sean admits he got it wrong. Dressed to kill, Emma heads out for her date with Curtis only to see him get into a car with a woman. Billy asks Todd to move in, as he wants the three of them to be a family. Todd is thrilled. Jenny tells Rita she's too soft for her own good. Rita points out that she's just showing Sharon the same courtesy she's always shown her. Sharon meets one of Harvey's goons and tells him that with Harvey out of the way, she's his new boss. She just needs money to get started - £10,000 should be enough...

Notes[]

  • This was a one-hour episode made up of two production codes, both halves being written by Julie Jones, and was transmitted at 9.00pm due to disruption to the normal schedules caused by coverage of the Euro 2020 football competition. It had been made available to stream on the ITV Hub on Monday 21st June, ahead of its ITV transmission following a decision taken by ITV to release all episodes of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale at the start of each week for the duration of the tournament, a time when the soaps were frequently displaced from their usual timeslots, so that viewers could watch at their convenience.
  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this episode was made with social distancing rules being observed by both cast and production crew, even when they were playing family members or people who shared residences.
  • The jury room at Weatherfield Crown Court was a redressed set of the courtroom.
  • The final scene of the episode, where Sharon Bentley takes charge of Harvey's drugs operation, was recorded in the car park at MediaCity studios.
  • TV Times synopsis: As Harvey's trial gets under way, Leanne enters the witness box; Carol calls at the Rovers saying she wants out of Double Glammy; and Curtis is confused by Emma's noticeably cooler attitude and decides to confide in Steve.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast: 5,202,000 viewers (8th place).
