Plot[]

Part One: Ray and Debbie face the council's planning committee. Roy attends the hearing as a representative of the community, arguing that the development should not go ahead. Sally, Abi, Kevin and Tim watch the proceedings from Underworld via video link, while Alya, Brian and Cathy do the same from Speed Daal. David switches to the latter group when he hears that Alya might be laying food on. The stakes are raised when Brian announces that their bid to have the brewery listed by Historic England has failed. Faye can't help but defend Gary when Craig puts him down and nearly gives the game away. Grace is released from prison and turns up at No.3. Michael remains sceptical that her baby is his and admits he hasn't told his parents about the pregnancy. Debbie puts her case to the committee, arguing that the development will bring money and jobs to a deprived area. Roy counters that it'll break up the community with its effect on house prices and increase pollution.

Part Two: Maria returns from court with the news that Gary has been put on remand. Faye struggles to live with the guilt of letting her brother go down for her crime and considers confessing. Grace is keen to put the matter of her baby's paternity to rest and suggests getting a test. Evelyn sees Arthur walking out of Preston's Petals with flowers and tells him that his romantic gestures won't do. The committee grants the development planning permission. Ray and Debbie celebrate while the residents cry foul. George tells Evelyn that Arthur was on his way to his wife Beryl's funeral when she saw him and the flowers were for her. Faye visits Gary in prison as she decides on a course of action. Gary tells her that he's where he should be and she mustn't confess. David is served with an eviction letter, giving the Platts two weeks to vacate No.8 before the bulldozers move in.
