Plot

Maria gets dressed as fast as she can, scared that Gary will come looking for her and find her with Ali. She tells Ali she'll finish with Gary in her own time and not on Valentine's Day. Danny Tomlinson encourages James to bite the bullet and tell Ed he's gay, noting Ed's nonplussed reaction when he did the same. James thinks he would react differently to his own son coming out. Daniel realises he's let Bethany down and announces in a packed Rovers that they're now more than friends. Maria returns home in a foul mood. Ignoring Gary's Valentine efforts, she demands that he admit he's still a loan shark. Ray holds the Valentine's Day charity gala at the bistro, with the Mayor in attendance. Bethany, Daniel and Alya book a table at the same time and Ray is forced to tolerate them in order to avoid a scene. Ray is put on the spot when Abi introduces him to three guests, all previous victims of his. Johnny takes Ryan on at the Rovers as a barman. A jubilant Ali tells Ryan that he and Maria are back on. Gary gives Maria an honest explanation for why he gave money to Ike Rodgers. She's dubious and Gary ends up walking out on her. Abi announces to all of Ray's guests that their host is a sex pest who propositioned his employees and threatened them if they told anyone. The women are unable to speak for themselves as they've signed nondisclosure agreements. Ed breaks it to James that Bethany is now with Daniel. James says they were just friends anyway. Ray shows his true colours to Abi, telling her that no one will believe her as she's a junkie slag and he's an honest businessman who gives generously to charity. Abi takes Ray's car keys and drives off in the vehicle when Kevin fails to stop her. Gary brings Ryan and Ike to the flat to back up his story. She believes him when he explains that Ryan was dropping off an engagement ring he wanted kept secret. Abi torches Ray's car. Ryan informs Ali that Gary has talked his way out of trouble again. Maria and Gary agree to start afresh. Gary gets down on one knee and asks Maria to marry him. Maria doesn't answer.
