Duncan Preston (born 11th August 1946 in Bradford) appeared on Coronation Street in May 2004 as Dennis Stokes, who conned Fred Elliott into taking up with apparent Thai bride, Orchard Pattaya.

His other credits include roles in Crossroads, The Song of Songs, Hunter's Walk, Secret Army, The English Programme, Buddy, The Bill, Hardwicke House, EastEnders, Noble House, Chalk, Holby City, Midsomer Murders, Doctors, Heartbeat, Love & Marriage and Silent Witness, but is perhaps best known for his roles as Jonathan Haslam in Surgical Spirit from 1989 to 1995, Doug Potts in Emmerdale from 2007 to 2011 and 2014 to 2020 and his work in productions penned by Victoria Wood, notably Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, Acorn Antiques (along with its musical spin-offs) and Dinnerladies.

Film roles include Porridge, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Scandalous, A Passage to India, Milk, Five Children and It, Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey?! and Howl.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Romeo and Juliet, Dingo, Macbeth, Bingo, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Pillars of the Community for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include End of Conflict, Clever Soldiers, Bedroom Farce, Rain from Heaven, Of Mice and Men, Habeas Corpus, The Mentalists and To Kill a Mockingbird.
