Doug Murray, real name Dave Matthews, was bankrupt mechanic who worked briefly at MVB Motors between 1992 and 1993.
During his eight months in Coronation Street, Doug went out with Deirdre Barlow and endured a crush from her teenage daughter Tracy. He never had much money and flitted from house to house, at one point living in a dormobile which had been dumped in the street.
In 1993, he left Weatherfield in style by trading in his employer Mike Baldwin's Jaguar for a new Mercedes and driving off in it.
