Dorothy Anne Vernon (born 9th January 1939 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire; died 25th June 2014 in Banstead, Surrey) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in October 1984 as DSS official Mrs Walters, who called upon the Duckworths; and she returned to the programme in May 1996 as the magistrate who Steve and Vicky McDonald appeared before on the charge of perverting the course of justice.
Perhaps best remembered as Helen Tate in Crown Court from 1972 to 1975 and in 2007, her other credits included roles in Suspicion, Emmerdale Farm, Sorrell and Son, The Final Cut, Dalziel and Pascoe and Cardiac Arrest.
On stage, she appeared in productions of The Real McCoy, Under Milk Wood, The Stirrings in Sheffield on Saturday Night, Catch My Soul, Beyond the Rainbow and Follies.
