Doreen Fenwick was the old shobiz friend of Rita Sullivan and appeared in 2007.

Background and Arrival

The character was originally introduced in February 2007 as an old friend of the long running character Rita Sullivan. This is Young's second role in the soap; she had appeared in 1981 as a character called Dot Stockwell.

Relationship woth Norris Cole

Doreen became a sparring partner for the character Norris Cole, but scriptwriters have since developed their relationship into a romance. Doreen arrived in February 2007 as an old showbiz friend of Rita Sullivan. She was initially disliked by Rita's business partner Norris Cole whom she insulted upon first meeting him. Shortly afterwards Rita let Doreen stay with her as Doreen told her that her flat was being repaired. On 18th May 2007 however, Rita discovered that Doreen was faking her flat being repaired and removed of asbestos. Rita then told Doreen to pack her bags and leave. On 28th May 2007 Rita confessed to Norris that she was missing Doreens company but refused to make the first move. Norris secretly arranged to meet Doreen and persuaded her to make up with Rita. The two made up over a drink in the Rovers Return.

Doreen has been known to help out in The Kabin on occasions such as when Rita was on holiday.

Marriage proposals

In November 2007 after Rita had declined Norris' offer of marriage, Norris went on to propose to Doreen unaware that both George Trench and Ivor Priestley had already proposed to Doreen, she claimed that she would consider on all their offers and on 2 December 2007 Norris told her that he was declining his proposals, Doreen also said she didn't want to get married at all.

Behind the scenes

Doreen never officially left, but after deciding to stay Single she disappeared and has not been seen since.
