The Divisional Officer was one of the team of firemen who dealt with the outbreak of fire in the Maisonettes in 1971. He and Billy Walker stopped Ken Barlow from rushing up the steps to No. 14 to rescue Valerie Barlow from the smoke and flames, not realising that she was already dead, electrocuted by a faulty plug in the accident that set off the fire in the first place.
- The character was also credited on Episode 1049 (3rd February 1971) even though he doesn't appear, along with Valerie Barlow, Peter Barlow, Susan Barlow, the Station Officer and Mr Weaver.
