Diana Coupland (born "Betty Diana Coupland" on 5th March 1928 in Leeds, died 10th November 2006 in Coventry) appeared on Coronation Street in October 1962 as Miami Modes supervisor Mrs Dumbarton, a part played eighteen months earlier by Valerie Skardon.
Following a move to London with her parents in 1947, she became a leading singer of the era and gained employment at two of the top hotels in the capital.
Best known for her portrayal of housewife Jean Abbott in 1970s sitcom Bless This House, she made her television debut in a 1961 episode of Emergency-Ward 10. Her other credits include roles in Magnolia Street, Z Cars, Dixon of Dock Green, Softly Softly, A Raging Calm, Triangle, EastEnders, Doctors, Casualty and Rose and Maloney.
On the bigger screen, she had an uncredited voice part in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No, along with roles in Flannelfoot, The Millionairess, Charlie Bubbles, Spring and Port Wine, Bless This House, Operation: Daybreak and Another Life.
Stage roles included productions of Unfinished Business, Richard III and From Bard to Broadway for the RSC. Other works include Ferdinand the Matador, The Lion in Love, Flare Path, Forty Love and Filumena.
