Derrick Gilbert (born 26th May 1937 in Nottingham) played three different roles on Coronation Street:
- Weatherfield Gazette reporter John Meakin, appearing intermittently between November 1966 and April 1970
- Naval officer CPO Henderson in October 1978
- Hillside Crescent resident Mr Ballantyne in December 1989.
He also appeared in the You Can't Get Out Of The Wood episode of the spin-off Turn out the Lights in January 1967.
His other television credits include Doctor Who, Z Cars, Budgie, A Traveller in Time, The Devil's Crown and In Suspicious Circumstances.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Final Trick, Love on Ice, Spring and Port Wine, Murder at the Vicarage, An Ideal Husband, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 and Aladdin.
