Denis Holmes (born 7th June 1921 in Foleshill, Coventry; died 27th May 2013 in America) appeared on Coronation Street intermittently between June and October 1961 as Brian Foley, work superior and confidant of Esther Hayes.
His acting career stretched from the 1950s to the 2000s and includes roles in Stand by to Shoot, Starr and Company, The Four Just Men, Maigret, The Dark Island, Sergeant Cork, Dr. Finlay's Casebook, Poldark, Angels, Emmerdale, Eh! Brian It's a Whopper, The Bill and Bergerac.
Film roles include Murder in the Cathedral, Paul Temple Returns, Cover Girl Killer, Victim, Attempt to Kill, The Scarlet Blade, Licensed to Kill, The Brides of Fu Manchu, Moonlighting and Sabrina.
He appeared in several stage productions, predominantly for the RSC, including The Merry Wives of Windsor, Pericles, The Winter's Tale, Henry VIII, The Plebeians Rehearse The Uprising, Arden of Faversham, Richard II, Much Ado About Nothing, The Duchess of Malfi, The Merchant of Venice, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, King John, Doctor Faustus and The Tempest.
Denis, his wife Barbara and their two daughters moved Stateside in 1989 where he continued to work in numerous Broadway productions and in many renowned theatre companies in America. Denis sadly passed away just a few days before his 92nd birthday.
